Steven's Story
Life
I moved to Lancaster, California for junior high school after spending 3 of my elementary school years in El Nido, Calif. living on a farm. I attended Joshua Junior High for 7th and 8th grade and then attended Antelope Valley High School for my freshman year. At the end of 9th grade, we packed-up and moved to Fox Island, Washington where my grandparents had purchased an older home in 1955. It had always been a family dream to be able to live in Washington, but did not become a reality until the summer of 1972. I enrolled at Peninsula High School where I would spend the next 3 years of high school. It was a fantastic environment in everyway! I missed the people that had become my friends in Lancaster, but I quickly adapted to my new life in Washington. After graduating high school in 1975, I spent 3 months at the Universidad de las Americas in Cholula, Puebla, Mexico attending classes during the week, improving my Spanish language skills, and traveling on the weekends. Upon returning to Washington, I enrolled at Tacoma Community College and started working on my associates degree. After TCC, in June of 1977, I became a full time employee at a fastener company in Tacoma named Tacoma Screw Products. After 7 years with the company, I left to pursue other interests and returned in 1988 and I have been there ever since. With the recent opening of our store in Pasco, WA we now have 13 retail outlets. For approximately the past 17 years, I have been the Inventory Manager for this outstanding company. In addition to managing inventory, I trained employees for several years regarding the use of the distribution software that we use for selling our products. As of May of 2007, I am no longer the corporate trainer because we have now made that a full-time position and have hired a long-ti...Expand for more
me employee from within the company to fulfill those duties. I am married to Kris (Lyon) Carpenter from Toledo, Washington. She is a graduate of Central Washington University with in a degree in Early Childhood Education. We met in 1992 and married in 1993. We have two children and reside in Tacoma. In addition to my younger children, I have 2 adult children from a previous marriage. My oldest daughter is married and has 2 children. She and her family live in Bothell, WA. My oldest son lives in Tacoma. My hobby is flying. In August of 2004, I earned my private pilots license. Recently, I completed the instrument rating and I hope to begin working on the commercial rating very soon. Sometime during my 60's, I will retire from the business of "nuts & bolts" (literally) and spend my retirement years as a flight instructor. Please feel free to write a quick note or a long letter . It would be great to hear from you! I will try to remember to update the photos from time-to-time even though every passing year brings more wrinkles around the eyes...and less hair to comb. Oh well! My kids still think that I am the youngest grandpa around and my wife and I still get along like newlyweds. Inwardly, I don't think that I have changed much at all. I greatly enjoy talking to everyone I meet and hearing about their lives is very fascinating to me. Just in case you knew my siblings, my sister Julie lives in Washington with her husband Dave Joy and they have 3 adult children. She graduated from Antelope Valley High School in 1972. My brother Mark lives in Idaho. He is divorced and has 3 adult children that live in Tacoma. Mark spent his first 3 years of high school at Antelope Valley and spent his senior year at the Alternative High School in Lancaster and graduated from that school in 1973.
