Steven's Story
Life
I am a funeral director after three years in sales. Previously, I taught middle school for 12 years and was an at-home father for another six.
I live with my wife, Verna, now a full-time mom, and our two children, Miguel, who was born in February 1998, and Maya, born January 2006. We live in San Rafael, CA. Verna gave birth 3 1/2 weeks early to Maya so she could begin chemotherapy for the breast cancer that was diagnosed January 13.
All in all, we consider ourselves very blessed and believe that Verna will conquer the cancer. We derive much joy from both our kids, family, and all the love and support from everyone in the community. As of November 3, 2006, Verna is cancer-free and well along in her recovery.
October 2009: My wife's cancer is back. She's doing radiation to be followed by chemo. It sucks!
College
I started college in 1977 in NYC, but quit in 1982, after a year in Israel, and didn't get my undergraduate degree until 1987. Then I moved to San Francisco to get my master's degree in anthropology, which I finished in 1993. I met my wife in 1990 while we worked at a summer day camp.

turns out, they were right but my career path changed when reality swept in.
Read, cycle or run, play with my kids.
If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have a financial incentive, situation of integrity, and fun environment to be able to deal with the day-to-day.
Our kids have taught me about being silly and spontaneous and learning how to relax.
If I won $100 million, I'd give half of it to important causes, then spend the rest on family, saving for kids and something special for my wife.
My current age is 49. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be about where I am but with older kids. I was so completely naive.
I'd love to be a full-time writer.
I still wear argyle socks, flannel shirts, and print shorts. So what!
I share my home with wife and kids, which I find wonderful.
In 10 years, I hope to be writing full-time or in sales at a better company. I'm going to get there by hard work, luck, and more hard work.
My first job was at Cow's Farm or Barn, where I got paid $5/hr. to be a cashier and stocker. What I remember most about it is I had to learn how to tie a tie and some of my co-workers made fun of me..
I'll probably never forget my bar mitzvah ceremony, how hard I worked to make it happen
