Steven's Story
Life
(Updated 04/26/10)
I still spend my free time driving around and enjoying the beautiful scenery in Illinois. There is so much to see and do here. My favorite thing to do is hike around and take pictures of nature, especially flowers, wildlife, hiking trails and state parks.
1985-1988
Attended classes at UIC and then worked as a full-time support staff member in the UIC Psychology Department. Never did graduate from College, though. I chose to work full-time instead.
1988-1990
Left UIC to work at Illiois Bell as an information operator (411).
1991-2004
Returned to UIC and was hired in a general office position back in the Psychology Dept. and later as Assistant to the Dean in the College of Architecture and the Arts.
2004-2006
Began a new career as an assistant manager in a real estate company. I resigned in December 2006 because of the slow housing market and a HUGE paycut.
2007
I started working a home-based candle business and am always looking for new ways to make money.
2008
I'm still retailing scented candles, taking short road trips in IL/WI and enjoying my summer. I've also attended an educational workshop by Barbara Winter in Madison, WI: Making a Living Without a Job.
2009
The sad news this year is that my Dad passed away in December due to congestive heart failure. It was unexpected and it's been a difficult time. Semper fi.
2010
I started a personal concierge business working with busy professionals and the elderly. What I do is strictly non-medical help. I enjoy helping others doing things that they have no time to do o...Expand for more
r they just can't do by themselves anymore: grocery shopping, running errands, accompanying them at doctor appointments, overseeing deliveries, doing laundry, etc. Giving people some time freedom or helping them stay independent at home is rewarding to me.
Well, that's about it for the update. I'll be updating my bio from time to time to keep you posted on new developments. Take care, and thanks for taking the time to read my bio.
Here are a few other tidbits of info:
School
If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't change a thing. Although it would be nice to go back in time with the knowledge that I've gained over the years!
The teacher that inspired me the most at Bridge was Mr. Adamowicz. He was a first-rate teacher who sincerely cared about his students. He also had a great sense of humor. I still crack up everytime I think of his one-liners!
One of my craziest school memories is when Max took my hat off at recess and threw it against the building where it stuck to the brick. Mrs. Formato made him stand outside in the cold to wait for it to fall off of the building. Then she made him give it back to me with an apology -- yikes, I thought that Max was going to kick my behind after school. They don't make teachers like Mrs. Formato anymore. She was the chief and we were the indians!
College
Attended for 3 years; did not graduate, chose to work full-time instead
Workplace
I'm always learning something new about myself!
Military
I was not in the military, but several of my family and friends were. Thanks to our troops for keeping us safe in the USA.
