Steven's Story

Who in the heck would want to hear a story about me? Anyway, after graduation, I got a job with the Missouri Audit Bureau located in the Pierce building downtown. The Pierce building is now the Adams Mark hotel. I was there for 3 years and met my wife there and Dave Mc Cubbins wife also worked there. I remember her being pregnant and was getting really close to her due date, and thinking she was going to drop in the desk drawer. In 1971, I received my draft notice and enlisted in the Missouri Air National Guard (draft dodger you might say). After my 6 years were up, I reenlisted and ended up retiring in 1995 after 23 years, 7 months and 18 days. In 1973, I accepted a job with the National Guard, as a civil service technician, and worked as a printing and binding specialist for a department of the Pentagon. I published classified reports of combat readiness for all Air National Guard units. I had a couple of other jobs with the Pentagon and finally accepted another position at McDonnell Douglas Corporation, in September 1978. I started in the Pension Administration office and remained there until 1986 when I went on an active duty tour with the Air Guard. By this time, I was an ammo man (building bombs and such, and yes I am a rocket scientist, LOL). I was working on F-4 Phanto...Expand for more
ms and finally F-15 Eagles. In 1989, my active duty tour was up and returned to McDonnell Douglas (same department). One of my responsibilities was to pay all the retirees of MDC. So, if you have or had any relatives who retired from MDC, I wrote and paid their retirement benefit until 2003. After Boeing bought MDC, my job was outsourced and was laid-off in March 2003, just shy of 25 years. After that, I worked, where I could, until I decided to say the hell with it and retired in April 2008. I got married in September 1974 and have been married to the same woman (best 10 years of my life) ever since. My 36th anniversary is September 14. We have 2 children, boy and girl, Kenny is 32 and Sara is 21. The big span in age difference is because both children are adopted. Kenny was 3 when we adopted him and he was a special needs child. We were on the waiting list for a newborn, 11 years, when Sara was born in June 1989. Kenny lives in Belleville, with other special needs men and women, that provide 24 hour care. It's a regular house with 3 other people, so it's not like an institution. My daughter still lives at home and does absolutely nothing except make my gray/white hair thin. I hope this narrative wasn't to long or boring and looking forward to the reunion. Regards, Steve
