Steven's Story

My beautiful wife and I are raising two talented and lovely daughters in Brighton, Michigan, where we have lived for more than 20 years. The older daughter is attending Ferris State University majoring in digital media and production. She has a keen eye and great storytelling skills. Among her myriad goals are writing, directing and using her unique vision as director of photography. Our younger daughter is attending Brighton High School with plans for Kendall College of Art and Design or Columbia College (Chicago). Her goals are to become a voice actor and animator with the ultimate prize of developing her own animated series. I met an amazing woman while attending Hillsdale College, but Kris and I did not date until after graduation. She keeps me sane and drives me crazy, and I am so very happy she became my wife nearly 22 years ago. The family enjoys time at the cottage on Higgins Lake. We also dig working with a local community theater group as a family activity. Kris headed up the Pinckney Players as president for a few years before taking over as director of the cheer program and varsity cheer coach in Brighton's youth football and cheer little league. She now spends time as a MHSAA cheer judge, traveling to competitions around the state and loving it. I am a creative editor, visual effects artist and shooter under the guise of Eidos Creative Media, a company I started a couple of years ago. We specialize in branding through storytelling. We create content for advertising agencies, corporations and local businesses utilized in digital/social media channels, broadcast and/or internal communications. In between gigs I freelance as editor and vfx artist around town and from my home studio. My passion for film/video/audio production began quite some time ago when I picked up a razor blade and made my first splice of 1/4" tape in Studio C at WSHJ. I knew a world of possibilities had just presented itself. I was fascinated by the idea of putting pieces together to create something new. I was (and still am) determined to learn and exploit juxtaposition to tell stories, to resolve conflict, to arouse emotion and tension, and especially to ill...Expand for more
uminate catharsis in not just a character but also in the viewer/listener. So that drive for learning to tell great stories carried me from recording Gene Merolis (What a great, great guy!) commercials at Patten Advertising Corp. to GM Photographic where I learned film production as a stage hand, location audio engineer, audio post engineer and video editor. That was an amazing summer job while attending Hillsdale College majoring in finance with a theater minor. The summer job at GM became full time after graduation. From there I counted myself among the lucky folks working at Image Associates, Grace and Wild Studios, Producers Color Service, Ron Rose/Milagro and Kinetic Post. And now I get to do my own gig, and I still love doing it. I have a few hobbies including woodworking and golf. My youthful passion for cars has never waned, and I use that passion to stay connected to my beloved parents, both gone too soon. I drive my mom's 1964 Corvette nearly every spring/summer/fall day, and I am finishing my dad's last project, a hot rod 1936 Ford pick-up. When that thing roars it will be a great tribute (and nice juxtaposition) to the awesome and gentle soul I was fortunate to call dad. We lost dad in 2013 in the most unfortunate and undeserved way when the home in which I grew up caught fire and all was lost. Mom passed in 2004. She was a smart and beautiful lady, strong of will, deep of character and profoundly determined, evidenced by her courageous eighteen year survival through three bouts of breast cancer. Even in the most difficult times of her struggle mom was the most incredible, loving, graceful and grateful grandmother to my daughters. Successes, setbacks and even a little tragedy all adds up to feeling quite blessed in this world. For that I can thank the strong foundations bestowed upon me by: loving and hardworking parents who set a great example; a great community that provided a safe place to learn, grow, fail and succeed; and the folks I called friends in my youth who taught me the benefits of caring, the importance of character, the pride found in teamwork and the joy of friendship. If you were among those friends, thank you!
