Steven's Story

😎 During 2nd Grade at Douglas Elementary School in Galesburg, IL, I began losing my sight. I was legally blind throughout my school years. Then, as an adult, I lost all of what little eyesight remained. Despite being totally blind (actually maybe because of being blind), I’ve lived a blessed life for which I’m immensely grateful. Please don't get me wrong though. It's not been an easy trek. I compare it to running a marathon while dragging a hundred-pound weight behind me. But, if the goal is actually worth achieving, then it's certainly worth the struggle. I believe I can accomplish anything I put my mind to. And, once I put my mind to it, I never quit! So, the adversity only makes me stronger. Furthermore, I absolutely know that success is never achieved alone. I’m profoundly aware of and forever indebted to my many generous friends who believed in and championed me. They are my heroes because of the monumental impact they've had on this rich and fulfilling life. Immediately after graduating high school in 1978, I moved from Illinois to Utah where I've since maintained a permanent residence. However, I have on Occasion journeyed out to live for periods in other locations including Colorado and Texas. Who knows where I might live next. I always seem, though, to find my way back to Utah. Currently, I live in the breathtaking, snow-peaked desert-mountains of Salt Lake City, UT. If you're ever in my neighborhood, I hope you'll visit me. In 1982, Penny Burnett and I were married for time and sealed for eternity at the Salt Lake City Temple. I'm beyond ecstatic to report we're still walking that path together after these many decades. And, we're most fortunate to have been gifted with a son, Adrien, who was born in 1990. I earned a Ph.D. in Business ...Expand for more
Administration (1994) from the University of Utah preceded by an M.B.A. in Strategic Management (1986) and a B.A. in Fine Arts & Communications (1982) both from Brigham Young University. At heart, I've always been a teacher. In the second quarter of life, I was a University Professor teaching business to students in the classroom. Now, in the third quarter of life, I’m a Venture Capitalist teaching business to entrepreneurs in the boardroom. I’m Chairman of Maranville Enterprises—The Guide by the Entrepreneur's Side. As a Strategic Advisor, I lead entrepreneurs through the chaotic complexities of starting and scaling their high-growth ventures. Said simply, I invest in the Apples, Googles, and Amazons before they become the Apples, Googles, and Amazons. Soon, I'll be releasing my newest book, "Train Your Unicorn," published by Business Expert Press (New York City) that reveals to entrepreneurs how to gain the adaptation advantage by scaling a venture that learns. It's also my privilege to travel across the United States and around the world to speak on the main stage at entrepreneurship events. Although I’ve literally circumnavigated the globe, I regret saying that I seldom get back to Galesburg. Nevertheless, the person who I am will always be rooted in Galesburg and the cherished friendships I formed there while in the refiner's fire of childhood and adolescence. Thanks for stopping by my profile! I hope you'll reach out to me. It would be my honor to reconnect or to even make a first-time connection with you!
