Steven's Story
Well, after High School graduation, I attended two weeks at Cabrillo College and that was it for me. I paid my dues for some stupid mistakes and then got my act together; mostly because of my terrific wife. We were married in 1983 & as of this writing, are preparing to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary.
I began working at a Silicon Valley start-up back in 1980 and have worked for 10 different hard-drive companies since then. I'm in Equipment Maintenance Supervision now and really enjoy it. I currently live in Newark CA with my wife and three children; all who were/are home-schooled.
In 1989, both my wife and I became Christians which was a major turning point for us. No guarantees on a smooth path in this life but certainly a guarantee on what is to come after. Our faith was tested in 2007 when I received my diagnosis of prostate cancer. As of this writing, it's been almost a year since treatment and all's clear so far.
Being a music fan & wannabe guitarist, I played around with that for a few years but gave it up when our children were small. (no time, ...Expand for more
you know how that goes...) Well, once my oldest son turned 15 or so and showed an interest in the guitar himself, I got back into it again. Being an avid fan of the Bay Area band Y&T, I began where I left off by playing much of their music which I used to self-teach the guitar.
With the internet, I soon hooked up with some like minded fans and was a co-founder of the Y&T tribute band "Earthshaker" which didn't last too long for me but it was fun for a while. Fortunately however, that experience did provide me the chance to play with Joey Alves, (Y&T's original rhythm guitarist), and even played in the band for one night. It was kind of like that movie "Rock Star" but for real for me. I now have a recording studio in my garage, have worked with some promising local musicians and even have some of my own original recordings I hope to release eventually.
Some may remember that I lived on my skateboard. Well, I still have the same board, a "Santa Cruz" board, and even hop on it from time to time doing handstands down the street just to prove I still can.
