Life
I've been in Colorado almost 46 years now, about 43 or 43 more than I though I would be when I came out to Boulder to get my Master's degree at the University of Colorado in 1975 after surviving four, well, to put it kindly, "interesting" years of the College of William and Mary in Virginia. I still miss the old neighborhood in Maryland, but then it isn't exactly the old neighborhood anymore. My younger older sister and her husband bought the Hillcrest Heights house from my parents in 1975 and lived there until 1994, before fleeing to Annapolis.
Married for almost 19 years, divorced 26 years, and in a relationship for over eight years now. My oldest child is married and living in Littleton, Colorado, and my youngest works for Microsoft in Redmond, Washington. Retired in 2013 after 29 years as a paleontologist (and an earlier five years pretending to be an archaeologist) for the Colorado Department of Transportation, looking for and sometimes actually finding fossils before the heavy construction equipment got to them. Not anything even close to what I thought I might be doing when I got out of Potomac, but what the hey, I really had no idea in the world what I wanted to do with my life then anyway.
My daughter's Father's Day present in 2007 was a framed sonogram showing her twins, born by C-section on December 29, 2007. Gabrian weighed in at 5 lbs, 10 oz, and Katelynn came in at 5 lbs, 12 oz. That's almost 11 and a half pounds of baby! Their mom was tired, but relieved. Now they're 13 years old! How did this happen? It was just yesterday I was hanging out in the DrumBeat office at Potomac working on the sports page ...
