Steven's Story
Life
I am living proof that hard work and having Faith can reap you all the benefits you desire.
I started working in grade school and when it came to High School, I always had a part-time job as there were always things I wanted to buy. I went on the college in Edmond and worked while I attended college. I got married to my wife Janie, of 32 years now, while I was in college. Shortly after finishing college, I went to work for GM at their new OKC Assembly plant. I went thru their management course and hired in as a supervisor. I felt so fortunate to have that job at such a young age, but two years later when they laid off a shift, I took a voluntary salaried layoff and about a month into the layoff, I got cabin fever and needed something to do. I called around to inquire about opening a cash business that I could keep going when they called me back to work for GM. Well, I started a company cleaning oilwell equipment and when GM called me to come back, I had gone too far and I was too busy to go back to work for them. I had to go thru the oil bust and survive that, but I did and today I am the CEO of the largest heavy equipment refurbishing company in the world. rt Worth, Texas and a paint mfg company. I love my work and I would not change anything about my life, if I had to do it over. The Lord blessed us with two exceptional sons. Our oldest son graduated from the University of Texas (YES- WE ARE LONGHORN FANS) and he went on to get his law degree in Houston. Our youngest son graduated from college in 2004 and now works for one of our companies. He is being groomed to take over someday, if I ever decide to retire. Not likely anytime soon. Janie and I slit our time between our three homes. We spend about half the year in Texas enjoying our house on Possum Kingdom Lake, then we spend the rest of the year in Las Vegas and at our Beaver Creek, Colorado home. I actually learned how to snowboard a few years back and get about 35 days of boarding in each winter. We recently spent 3 weeks in Europe and are planning to do the same the next two years. I never really cared to go there in the past, but now we want to see all of it. I have not had a close relationship with anyone I went to high school with, but we had some really good people at PCW, and I look forward to our reunion. Keep your Faith strong, as it is the only thing you have to fall back on when times are hard. Have fun in life, but always give God the glory he deserves. (12/09)
