Jaimey's Story

Life. Started at Poly High. Left to attend Lakewood High.My Mami felt Poly was too crazy.Kids were ditching all over the place, kids who in her mind weren't going to amount to anything. So, she decided to send me to Lakewood. That year was when the school district wanted to "integrate" the school. My Mother felt there was a better opportunity to go there because of the academics. I left middle school with A'S and B's, principal's honor roll and perfect attendance.Missed all the kids I practically grew up with, Long Beach has always been a diversified town, class and race period. I had friends in the LBC that were Armenian to Zimbabwean. Lakewood High was contrastingly different back then, very new to 'integration'. You are talking, white, middle, upper middle class and wealthy. The first day at Lakewood High I was pushed into my locker by a group of white girls coming my way down the hall. I was hurt and angry.I never experienced anything like it. I sure hope their children today would never experience such cruelness. But, you know what they say about Karma...and we wonder why our world is the way it is. A lot of our classes would make us the only black, brown or yellow person in class because so few of us were being bused from Long Beach at the time... It was very uncomfortable for most of us. There was this boy named Jeff in one of my classes who always screwed with me. He was so racist. The kids would laugh every-time he made a stupid racist crack. He'd say..."If Africans and blacks are so poor, why are their teeth so white"? I finally got fed up and said, "Because we spend our time hunting down the white people and using their bones to polish our teeth!" The whole class broke out in unexpected laughter, and Jeff...with his very kinky and frizzy hair, never made any racists cracks again in class. Despite all that ,I adjusted and made new friends. Friends across all spectrum's. There were a several old classmates that transferred there, from Stephens J.H.S... that made the transition easier. Great to know I wasn't the only one going to a new school in uncharted territory alone. (Frank F. My best friend) H.R., T.J,. A.R., T.G. S.T. I graduated in 1980 on the principal's honor roll. Received a scholarship to Brooks College in fashion design and interior decorating, with a minor in modeling, I thought, I would be this up- and coming designer right away! I ended up tailoring and dressmaking for people who were stealing my designs for very little or no pay. Pissed and disillusioned about that business- it's so phony, I hate phony, I wanted to do something exciting, fun and empowering. Hungry for real excitement, (or a sucker for punishment), went into the Army Reserves. Came back, married the first time, and started working with a large security firm. Worked in plain clothes, loss prevention, and as a personal body guard for the host and hostess of The Fashion Channel... anyone remember that/them? Lol! Never a dull moment. Later, went to work for D.O.D. (Department Of Defense). I later divorced my first husband, a great guy...( Insert Sarcasm ). Later, I transferred to the D.O.J. (Department Of Justice) U.S. Immigration. I received my Purple belt 9th Gup in Tang Soo Do. I personally trained with the former world champion Bob Alegria for two years. I became a Notary in the course of the job. In the interim, I married again and we have raised six wonderful kids. My husband is my best friend, the core of who I am, and I am better in life because of him. I am so very blessed! We've bought and sold properties over time, played monopoly while the market was good... I went to work for a private security company, where I did traffic enforcement, and supervised at a very high profile exclusive community. I am now a SAHM. Six adult working, law abiding, successful, happy children. I am also a doting grandmother of 7 now. We two son-in- laws- in the Navy, the other is an IT person. My husband and I love antiques, home improvements, natural eating, essential oils, Yoga and gardening.I have become an excellent gardener over the years! I have two different fig trees I'm planning on grafting! Having problems with bulbs and Gardenias though. I also enjoy organic gardening, dining out, drinking fine wines, absinthe's, good coffees, music-love jazz, and smelling the roses! Life's too short. Lost both of my parents in the last 18 years. Life is certainly different without them.I miss them a lot. God has truly blessed me,though, as I continue to live and learn, evolve, experience, and grow in this life, enduring, over...Expand for more
coming. The pain and joy, the highs and lows- and aggravations/stresses of being human, working it out like we all have to, and to come full circle. I am so sad at some of the classmates I've encountered over the years, and how stuck up, indifferent, rude, ignorant, arrogant, unfriendly, and distant they've become in just saying hello. Not even being congenial enough to hold a short conversation. Wow! Euu at you. You Suck, and you are really trippin'. Hey, honestly, I don't want anything but to say hi, how have you been? Maybe relive a fun time in our lives, and that's it...Guess that's how people are these days... Very Sad. Really, I am still the same, just older, and wiser.I've tried not to let life's trials or people that suck destroy or take away/ minimize who and what I am... or what i'm trying to evolve to be. I'm hopelessly a big goofy kid at heart. Still pulling pranks, bagging, playing jacks, rollerskating, watching Tom And Jerry, Looney Tunes... I love Spongebob! My Grandson and son got me started... I roller-skate -I do not Rollerblade! I love running behind the ice cream truck with the grandkids kids! Yes, running! Love gatherings and entertaining our friends and family. Love chatting with my sibs for hours on end, or getting quick emails or instant messages from them. It is a true joy, because real friends, the love of your family and the love of your life are such a rare thing these days. It IS the true source of life's happiness, blessings, and contentment. It takes hard work, selflessness and commitment. It is full circle. It's a gift. Keeping things real and simple... You can find me on FB if you Just want to say hello, salutations, and hey! Blessings to all out there and a toast to all the things that were-the nostalgia, fun, excitement, a simpler and gentler time of life, the innocence, wonder, and joy of being young in the 70's. When you are thinking of me, I am thinking fondly of you! Peace and Blessings always. Love, Jaimey. School: Didn't have any crushes in high school. I was a total Nerd ... Mr. Holtzman was the best teacher ever. Very in tune with his students, a great motivator. He would always go on a tangient and start telling stories seventh period. So, the class would chant, "Story!, Story!". He'd smile, and would start talking about his life back in New York, and it totally tied in with what he taught...Sociology. WHAT A TEACHER! I loved Mr. Mellencamp, too. He allowed you to be creative.I loved the way he would just let you go out of class and take pictures. I felt good that he trusted me to do this.I liked to impress him with great group pictures that I still have to this day! He always reminded me about 'ballooning' when you take group pictures. That is, just having only somebody's head if they are in the back rows in a group photo. He showed me how to do stills, and portrait photos. Developing black and whites were smelly, but fun! He kept me postive and focused.I loved him tons! When I first got into Mr. Herbold's English class, I thought he was a "dumb jock. They were desperate for teacher's here', I thought. I did my first paper, and he 'Red Inked' the whole report! He took a can of English whoop-azz and showed me a thing or two. After that, I had the deepest respect for him! Who can forget that gravely voice, and staunch demeanor! Great guy! Mr. Johnson was so disciplined. We relived WWII through his eyes. His memorable photo in Time Magazine writing across the side of a warship letting his family know he was okay, was awesome! Mr. Diaz was really cool, too. Very Laid Back. R.O.T.C. was its own clique! Mr. Genesauski was fun. We called him the big Lithuanian. Journalism was more than what I thought, and his teachings stick to me to this very day when I look at an ad, or a commercial. Mr.Palombi was awesome. He taught me alot about art. Especially abstract art. Because of him, I was given a scholarship to Brooks College, and I have such a deep appreciation for art. I hope he got His Yellow Porsche. Couldn't keep my eyes off Mr. Pistoia. He wore these black tight pants everyday, and he had this walk... : College: I went to college at night, because I worked during the day. It was grueling, because I didn't do it when I was younger. It was harder to retain information... Especially if you are tired from working sometimes 12 hour days. No time to "party", those days were so long gone. I felt so "old" around the other students. But, did it! Administration of Justice, P.O.S.T. Certification, top 7 in the class! I also have minor studies in German and ASL.
