Life
Right out of NHHS in 72 with a draft number in the 30's, I joined the Navy. The last men drafted were those of us born in 1953. The draft ended on June 30, 1972. I did 20 years, 1 month and 13 days before retiring. As if I had not gotten enough of government service, I went to work for the Department of Veterans Affairs at the Hampton Veterans Affairs Medical Center. ng around and made the 30th and the 40th. My second grandson was born the night of the 30th reunion dance.. Missed my home and my roots. I have settled in Norfolk, Va. (Sailor town USA.) My pride and joy, my little girl, has made me a grandpa to two fantastic boys. She lives in Mexico so its a good drive or flight. I used to think that our generation was immortal and that we could feel no pain. My travels and 20 years at the VA Medical Center changed that. I am just plain human, one who wanted to never grow up but got tricked into it anyways.
