Sue's Story
I left Wilson High half way through Junior year when we moved to Australia. I attended high school here for a year and then got a job. With only 2 units of American History to do to get my high school diploma from Wilson I did this by correspondence and then sat my College Boards here and came back to Oregon in April 1967 and graduated with the Wilson class of '67. I then attended U of O for a year.
After completing that year I returned to Australia with a view to coming back to U of O to complete my degree but ended up moving to Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea where my boyfriend was working (he was an architect with the Federal Government). We ended up getting married in 1970.
In 1971 he was transferred to Darwin where our daughter, Gene, was born in 1972 and our son, Nathan, in 1974.
Christmas 1974 saw us survive Cyclone Tracey, although we lost ...Expand for more
everything and our house was totally destroyed.
In February 1975 we came to US on long service leave and lived with my parents in Aloha - they were on a working vacation back in Oregon.
We stayed with them for 9 months, then returned to Brisbane. We built our house and have lived here ever since.
I attended the Wilson 10 year reunion in '75 and have been to every decade reunion since.
I have worked at Brisbane Boys College since 1979 and have been working in the Library there for the past 11 years.
Both my kids are married and I have 5 grandchildren. I am now semi-retired and look after my son's three kids on Mondays and Tuesdays, and work Wed.- Fri. at the library.
Just returned from 3 weeks in Oregon where I visited with lots of friends and classmates from our old neighborhood in Multnomah. Have travelled to US about every 5 years. Life is Good!
