Sue's Story
Life
I left West High School and couldn't wait to work as a typist and be independent. What I found,as a woman, at that time, was that I needed formal education. After a few years, I became
very motivated to begin Rock Valley. Since I didn't take the college prep classes in HS, I had a big job to complete the HS classes I didn't take.
In 1971, I graduated from Rock Valley College in Business. I transfered to
Northern Illinois Univ. and graduated with a BSE in 1972. I subbed my way into
the Rockford School System and found myself teaching Business Education and Seondary English. I then left teaching
and started my family. We decided to farm in the beautiful hills of Northern
Wisc. So for 5 years, I milked cows,
cooked for hired help, and attended Graduate School at the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse where I graduated in
Dec. of 1991 with a MSE. Moving to the city, I began teaching in the LaCrosse area schools as a teacher specialist in

earning. I consulted, assessed and taught sudents identified with learning
disabilities. In 1994 with my new and current husband, we decided to both go
back to school in Madison, Wisc. and do
our "midlife crisis" together! I had fun
subbing in the Madison Schools and signed a contract while a part-time student in the Educational Administration Graduate School-UW-Madison. Close to completion of my program, I became identified with Advanced Ovarian Cancer. I "retired" early on a medical leave from the school district of Madison. I am now
a cancer survivor. I still advocate for
students with disabilities with the Parent Educaton Program- Milwaukee as a
volunteer and am very active in providing support and education for other women with ovarian cancer. Since
David and I have both now retired, we
are finding time to travel and cruise!
Would love to hear from other classmates. Wishing you a great day.
