Susan's Story
Life
Graduated ASU in 1974 w/ BS Education. Taught school in Ridgeland, SC in public high school-nightmare experience. If you ever saw the movie "Conrak", with Jon Voight, well, I was right around the corner from where that movie/story took place. Went to Atlanta-worked W/Fulton Co.,Cities of Alpharetta and Roswell in Parks and Recreation for 10 years. Left and took a job in sales in the virgin resin,(plastic), industry, moved for a job to Mebane, NC(plus my husband and I separated in 1994), and realizing the company I began working for was going belly-up, started my own business in 1998. I own a plastic recycling company now located in Burlington, NC. We relocated from Graham, and I bought an old textile warehouse, tripling our square footage. enior at Wake Forest University. He is on track for taking the LSAC and law school. My daughter is a NCSU graduate, working on her Masters in Sociology. She cheered at NCSU and made the cover of "American Cheerleader" magazine in 2007 after being spotted in Daytona at the National Competition. She is married and learning all about what's involved in THAT. Currently living in Raleigh.
My company has really struggled during this recession and we are crawling out of a deep hole we got into durin '08, '09 and '10. Although the recession isn't really over, the ember is glowing a bit brighter. We are busy again, but laid off 13 employees in Jan of '09 so a much smaller group here. I am very grateful to still be in business and have a job. Like many small businesses, we will be meaner and leaner that we've ever been.
