Susan's Story

Hi to all... Hope this finds you well and life has treated you kindly. Wow...where do you begin to fill in a time span of 28 years. I guess I should go back to the "glory days" of BHS 1980. If I had it to over again would I do anything different probably not. I had fun in HS which is what one should do. Life is short... and sometimes painful but I believe it should be cherished. My "lessons learned" did not get fulfilled in HS, but through living my life, loving thoughtfully, caring passionately, working hard and exploring vigorously. I don't regret the choices I've made, they were mine to make. I am extremely fortunate to have experienced all that I have and with the many people in my life that I've been able to share the good, the bad and sometimes sad. Some say...life is what you make it, I didn't always believe that. I say this now because I too can speak of heartache and I believe no one walks this earth without a scratch. I lost my Mum to lung cancer when I was 28 and when I thought I was on top of the world, living a great life... with nothing to lose. A year later... I lost my sister Kathy (who was only 39) to stomach cancer and she left behind two great kids. If that didn't make me smell the Roses - I'm not sure anything else wo...Expand for more
uld have. So, I decided to do my best and give all that I could to those in my life. I married at 30, divorced at 41, and again I am fortunate enough to say that my ex and I are still good friends, we have a great relationship and have done right by our boys not only for their sake but I think for our as well. A year later.....when I least expected it and wasn't looking I met and married my Soulmate and we've been together now 5 years. I have been blessed with two of the greatest boys ever and two really great step kids ages: 19, 17, 14, & 11 and yes.....they keep me young. I decided to live my life not in fear of anything, because... ya just never know. On July 10, 2006 (my mothers birthday) I received a phone call from my Dr. with the 3 words I never thought (or wanted to) hear..."you have cancer". I am a survivor, going strong...2 years and 3 months. The picture of me and my boys was the night before I had to have my first of many surgeries....we were celebrating life, not dreading the cancer in it. I could not have made it thus far in my life without the love and support of my family and friends.
