Susan's Story
After highschool I got a BA in English and American Literature and Writing with minors in journalism and communication. While working on my MA in Language, Composition and Rhetoric, I taught freshman writing classes. After I graduated, I moved to Laramie, Wyoming, to teach literature and writing at the University of Wyoming. There I learned to make my own entertainment --especially when I was snowed in so often. From there I joined the Air Force, with a goal of teaching at the Air Force Academy; but instead I chose to work in Public Affairs. I met my husband Steve at my first assignment at MacDill AFB in Tampa. After 8 years of active duty, and losing our first child to SIDS, I found myself pregnant again. I left active duty to raise my daughter, Lauren, in Dayton, Ohio. We were transferred to Ramstein, Germany, a few years later and I joined the Air Force Reserve. From that time ...Expand for more
on, I worked 2-3 days a week as a reservist whereever we lived -- and did several extended tours in Washington, D.C., after 9-11.
We have lived in Tampa, twice in the Florida panhandle, Dayton, Germany, and Washington DC.
I retired from the Reserves in August 2007 and continue to work part time as a magazine editor for a defense agency.
My daughter is a high school sophmore and a skilled writer. My husband Steve teaches logistics for the Defense Acquisition University and is cycling across America with three friends. We live in Virginia, outside of Washington, DC. We love to travel, Volksmarch and attend theater. We've been to 35 countries and four continents. Last year we cruised the Baltic, including Estonia and Russia. Next year we plan to visit Machu Pichu and the Galapogos -- adding a few countries and a continent to the list. We love to experience how others in the world live.
