Susan's Story

I went to school in Willingboro, New Jersey from 3rd grade thru HS. I am married to Anthony Picciano, retired after 24 yrs in the Navy. after HS, I went to Helene Fuld School of Nursing on a full scholarship. After the 1st year, I realized I wouldnt be doing the 'hands-on' kind of care I had always dreamt of so I changed schools to Dorothy Aristones School of Paramedical and Business Professions & got my Associates in Medical Assisting (M.A). I had a 20+yr successful career as an M.A, the last 8yrs in OB/GYN. I have 2 sons from my 1st marriage (8/26/79-Mark Wirtz). We were married for 18 yrs. Matthew will be 28 in June. He was in th Navy for 5 yrs, married, (til his wife cheated) but not b4 she gave him my beautiful grandson, Shawn, who will be 7 in June. He is my sunshine on any day!! My youngest, Michael, will be 22 this Dec. 2014. He is also in the Navy working w/the NSA. They r constantly making him offers of employment b/c of his amazing computer skills! (From his dad, not me! LOL!) Some of my interests include finding a cure for my pain..20+ yrs of nursing takes a toll on the spine. But now that I can enjoy an early retirement w/my amazing hubby, I am able little by little try to repair some of the damage. Music she likes includes Stomp, Geniune Sun, Staind, Train, Pink, Gavin McGraw, Jason Mraz, most anything but hip hop or heavy metal. I want to hear & understand & connect to the lyrics. I like to read REAL books, and collect them, including and ESPECIALLY Dean Koontz. I have almost every book he's written, including those under pseudonyms. His elusive "The Book of Counted Sorrows" cost me $300, but well worth it especially since I was able to speak personally w/him via phone at a radio station where I was competing in a baking contest, and won! $2500 in prizes, but best wasspeaking w/ Dean! I also loved the 50 Shades of Gray series, Kathy Reich's 'Bones' series. Movies I like include The Notebook, Somewhere in Time 1980, The Hunger Games, Twilight Series, Lord of the Rings, Matrix, good sci-fi, not the hokey Godzilla crap. TV shows I like include Revolution, Warehouse 13, Under The Dome, Grey's Anatomy, The Good Wife, Scandal, Cutthroat Ki...Expand for more
tchen, The Mentalist. Hell's Kitchen, Face Off, The 100, Hannibal, The Vampire Diaries, & The Originals, The Young & the Restless, The Following, Elementary, to name a few. My hub & I follow an underground foodie group that supports handi-capable adults by providing scholarships for their culinary program. You never know where the dinner will be or who the Chef will be until a week b4 the dinner. All proceeds go to the scholarships. It's called 'The Traveling Plate'. It's an AMAZING group w/awesome people! I've only missed 1 dinner, their 1st one, which is when I heard of it on our local news. Since then, I've been to every dinner b/c not only is the food great, but the cause is something I'm proud to be a part of. In fact, I was awarded a coveted "Traveling Plate', a plate they give each guest Chef & certain people they choose to honor. Because I'd attended all but 1 dinner, something no other person has done, I was awarded my own 'Traveling Plate'! (See travelingplate dot com) Other than that, I consider myself pretty blessed. Great husband, great kids, beautiful house in a great neighborhood w/the perfect weather & ability to pick up & travel whenever & wherever we want. Even though I live in constant pain, I know things COULD be worse so I am ever thankful to God! One of Susan's favorite quotes is:"Real women come in ALL sizes. It's what's inside them that makes them a REAL woman, not whether they are too big for skinny jeans or skinny enough to wear them. A real woman will love her friend no matter what size she wears so long as her heart is the biggest size of all! Signed me, someone who has been ALL the external sizes but kept the heart size though it all. <3". More about Susan:"'Life should NOT be a journey 2 the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive & well preserved body, but rather 2 skid in sideways, chocolate in 1 hand, martini in the other, body thoroughly used up, worn out & screaming Wohoo!' Finally living where I want with the love of my life! While I can't do anything about my pain, at least I have a few good friends to stand with me along side of my hubby to keep me going! For that, I AM SOOO BLESSED!!! :-D".
