Susan's Story

After HS I went to community college. Then Cal State Long Beach (now CSULB) for BA and San Francisco State (now CSUSF) for MA. Worked briefly as Sub teacher before State of CA Employment Development Department. Retired from EDD after 37 years due to health problems - mine and my parents. My Stepdad died Dec 2009 at 97. after that, I "looked after" Mom - she was legally blind, bad arthritis, and later on oxygen - until she passed Nov 2015 at 93. now I look after myself as best as I can-back and knee problems, arthritis etc. I have traveled throughout the USA (every state but Alaska), most of Canada and Central Mexico, and 2 Caribbean cruises that "hit" Perto Rico, Jamaica, Venezuela, Columbia, and Panama as well as many of the islands. Now I'm happy to stay home. Mom had a jewelry and crafts business after she retired that I helped with. I'm addicted to POGO games online...Expand for more
, and to the Weather channel. I belong to several Gem and Mineral (Rockhound) societies, but am not able to "do" the field trips any more. I still "collect" online and at shows. I took up Oil painting for a while, but stopped when I had my first surgery in '96, still planning to start up again. Back to photography for time being. Still have to learn about photographing rocks - especially the micros. Most of my extended family-5 aunts, 4 uncles and about 1000 cousins-are in Minnesota. We keep in touch online. I was also active in the Retired State Employees group til my back sort of gave out - still working to keep our benefits, and had joined the Long Beach Computer Club to maybe learn how to work this thing better. my computer gave out last year, now i'm using Mom's old one. Still into Genealogy to track all the extended families back to the various old countries.
