Life After graduating Central, I attended Marymount College where I was a French major. Before transferring to KU for a semester & then on to France to study, I married Norman Burt ('71 South). Surprise! I got pregnant a month later! No French university for me! But, at least he got a French name! Spencer Nelson was our first, Emily Catherine was born 21 months later, and three years after that, Marieke Beth arrived. I was fortunate enough to be a SAHM, discovering that being a mom was my true calling. The motherhood lasted, the marriage did not. I was a single mom for eight glorious years - the best time of my life. Those years were chaotic - all three children were in the gifted program and had a zillion activities while I attended college . I was dignosed with lupus and had to quit school a year before I was to receive my degree to teach junior high English. I remarried in 1988; my children all graduated Central. Spencer graduated from Bethany and eventually went to Harvard Law School - where he discovered it "wasn't his thing" after a year and a half.
