Susan's Story
Life
I work at the VA in KC, and have been since '86. Eight years ago, I made the transition from the operating room to out-patient clinics, dermatology. I am a "solo act" in a busy, busy clinic! A real challenge to pull it all together at times! For years, I was just a diploma nurse, and 5 yrs. ago, I took the big plunge and went back to school, and graduated with a BSN in 2003. (I like to joke around about it, and that now I am official "bull sh--" nurse) My second husband, Charlie, and I own a huge house in Independence, complete with an in-ground pool...you know where I'm at in the hot weather!
Instead of working on a masters in nursing, I decided to do something I always wanted to do, and I have definitely found my passion....pottery. I study under a local artist who takes on ...Expand for more
students, and am getting proficient at wheel throwing, hand building, and different firing techniques..see my pics. We have a huge basement, and I have carved out an area for my studio...I have a wheel, extruder, slab roller, and kiln I spend my free time in my space creating. 2011 I am now back in the OR, returned 2 yrs. ago,and it is like I have never left..a lot of things have changed, but things returned fast! Love the OR,and glad I am back!
I wish more of our class would put their info in this site, it's fun reading about where everybody is at in their lives! It's hard to believe that the class of 66 has a 40 yr. coming up...gosh, don't feel that old! What's age anyway...it's all in attitude!
I retired in 11-13 after 44years of nursing and 28 years of it at the VA. Loving it.
