Susan's Story
So last Friday was the first election in Luanda in 16 years. The last time the opposition party contested the results which resulted in civil unrest. This time the election (so far) has gone without a hitch. It's actually been a bit of a yawn. On election day I peered through my front windows to view the event. Locals had arrived early at the voting assembly( Tents with a table and chairs inside), but many did not vote until the plastic ballot boxes showed up later around 2 in the afternoon. Still people waited patiently. The next day I was out and about shopping and everyone proudly held up...Expand for more
their index finger to show their ink dipped finger -proof of their vote! Big smiles . School starts for me on this week. I teach grade 2 at a very small english speaking school, although most of my kids are bilingual (Portugues, Italian, Affikans, Danish...) Our faculty is small, only 10 of us. Dave and I with son Eric just completed another awesome cycling trip ... this time in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. If you are ever in that neck of the woods I highly recommend it. Our tour operator was with Daytrippers. They specialize in alternative outdoor adventures. That's all for now....
