Susan's Story
Susan Hawkins is a retired archaeologist living in Idaho. In 2008 she received her BA in Anthropology from Boise State University, and in 2011 an MA in the Humanities from Tiffin University, OH. Her emphasis includes, Great Basin cultural ecology, experimental archaeology, and ancient mythology. She published two papers in the Idaho Archaeologist; “Analysis of a Pottery Vessel from the Celebration Park Area, Southwest Idaho” and “Impacts of Moisture and Temperature on Stored Seed in Subterranean Pits”. ecorded and mapped archeological findings of sites in project areas. Additonally, she performed historic preservation and restoration on Forest Service properties listed on the National Register of Historic Places including; reviewing, monitoring, and assisting in restoration and rehabilitation work. Her experience working on historic mining sites inspired her Master’s Thesis on 19th century Chinese merchants and their impact on mining communities. She occasionally works with Idaho archaeologists on research and artifact curation, as well as survey and GIS mapping. Sue is married with one son who graduated from Boise State University in Political Science. In her spare time she likes to camp, hike, read, garden and spend time with her family.
