Susan's Story

I moved to WPB, Fl in 1978-worked in medical field-got married in 1979, had 2 wonderful boys-now 29-Anthony (in picture above with me on vaca in San Diego)and Jeffrey now 26 about to graduate from FAU in Boca Raton, Fla with his Masters Degree in Computer Science and then get married 10/10/10 to his Fionce' Angelique-his girlfriend for the last 10 years!! I am now married for the 2nd time after being divorced for 20 years-I live in Las Vegas and work at Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino at Raffles Cafe. The hotel is on the Strip and I am a Food Server on swing shift for the last 10 years, so if you come out be sure to look me up! Honestly we have the best food ever than any 24 hour cafe in Las Vegas! Believe me-don't waste your $$ elsewhere!! I always wanted to be a nurse when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a great idea. As it turns out, they were right. I love to relax listening to music with a dancing beat so I can do some chair dancing! If I go to a club with my friends out here, I still LOVE to dance! If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have ice coffee, cigarettes, and my music to be able to deal with the day-to-day. My Mom and Dad are my heroes-god rest their souls..I moved here at their request. I thought it to be a good idea, not only for our whole family to be together(8 brothers and sisters, all my nieces and nephews, and my parents as well)but in case anything healthwise(bad)happened to them, I wanted to be here to care for them. Well that time came and I helped my Dad for 6 years take care of my Sweetest Mother until she peacefully passed away at Hospice in 2005, then alot of my time was spent with my Dad after the loss of his Bride after 52 blissful years. Through the grief of it all, of course he was depressed so I kept as much company with him to keep his spirits up. Then in Jan 2009, a Dr here inserted a shunt in my fathers arm backwards, and that was the beginning of the end. Three days after his outpatient surgery, his arm turned black and swelled up like and elephant, and I called 911 when he started having halloucinations and he was taken to the local E.R. to spend the next 5 months in the hospital(sepsis and kidney failure)and passed away on Memorial Day. This was so ironic because my Hero, my Daddy was a POW in WWII and was also MIA. He was captured while fighting on the front lines-he rushed the enemy, by himself to save his platoon, and was shot with a machine gun in his back, arm, and shoulder and had his last 2 fingers on his R hand paralyzed since he was 19 years old. He told me stories about being tortured while being held POW, while the Dr took him in the "surgical suite" and poked and jabbed his wounds weekly. How horrifying!! Tho so brave thru it all, he was FINALLY liberated thru and by his Mothers daily prayers. That is why my Daddy is my hero. My Mother is because of her true person that she was, her beauty that she passed on to me(haha), many people including my bro's and sis's, tell me how much I resemble my mother-it's a compliment any time I hear it! I was blessed to have such wonderful and supportive parents throughout my life, all the way to their end. I cannot explain how much I miss them-if any of you have lost your parents or a loved one, you know what I am talking about. All I can say, I completed my goal for moving to Las Vegas. I am still taking care of my fathers final wishes as in regards to his home etc. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Suzanne Sullivan, because she was always so pretty and sweet any time I talked to her. My wish for her is that she is happy and enjoying life!. If I could improve my home, I'd remodel the whole thing and add on a upstairs and basement just like in N.Y. when I lived there.. My dream home would be a home with 3 levels. I have learned from my children that without them, I don't know what I would do. I can confide in them now that they are yo...Expand for more
ung men. I have learned to have alot of patience, but for the most part, have not had too much problems with them. My older son lives with me and I love it! If I won $100 million, I'd give two thirds of it to my boys, then spend the rest on vacations, new home and me!!. My best friend would tell you I'm very friendly, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as bashful. I love JEWELRY and bling! I love to dress up and go to nice places. I need to loose some weight due to an underactive thyroid, but other than that I love to be trendy and try to look beautiful as my Mom always did and was. I wanted to walk in her footsteps and be a Registered Nurse, but in my first marriage my husband did not want me to go to nursing school. He wanted me home with the children and also working a full time job. I believe he was afraid of me making more money than him which would have been true. He was very selfish and was very pissed off at me when we divorced-I was his prisoner for 7 long years. He has passed on now already when he was 53 of Pancreatic Cancer-most likely due to his excessive drug use after the divorce and his mothers death. Still no reason to do to himself what he did. Very very sad. He had to lie to the courts to take my children from me-worst thing he could have ever done but now my bond with my children is UNBREAKABLE-forever!!!!! I share my home with my 2nd husband, which I find comforting. I did go to Rome, Italy in 2001 with my oldest sister. It was the vacation of a life time, and such a gorgeous city. I look foward to going there again before I die! Just remember if you go, go in July-it is the only month that they have sales in every store! I can remember that vacation like yesterday. I was best friends with Cathie Devitt in highschool. When I moved to Fla, she was living there and so was Mary Ann Carr. That was the only reason I moved there. Eventually, Cathie moved to New Hampshire and married her 2nd husband and she was breeding dogs. That was the last I heard from her-probably about 15 or more years ago. I have been trying to locate her but I can't find her! MaryAnn became an RN in Florida while working a full time job, and the last I knew she had moved back to NY and was working at a hospital in NYC-I believe it was MOUNT SINAI HOSPITAL. That had to be about 15 years ago as well. My first job was at Jack-In-The Box, where I got paid $7.00/hr to work the register at the drive thru. What I remember most about it is giving my friends that drove thru their order with lots of free stuff thrown in their bags. When I was 10yrs old, my Mom had my dad write a letter to Maytag, telling them how much laundry we did a week(40 loads)with never a problem with our washer and dryer. My family then became celebrities and were pictured in LIFE Magazine(1968), Good Housekeeping, and Readers Digest!! My Mom also made a commercial due to it all, and was on commercials while we watched television! We would all call each other everytime one of us saw it and laugh! My Dad told me at the taping, they had to do a few takes, beacuse it shows my Mom dusting, and while they were filming, she started laughing. When the Maytag people asked her what was so funny, she replied "I don't dust-am I doing it right?" No, she didn't have to dust-there were enough of us girls growing up to do all of that! She was trying to dust and talk about her Maytag washer at the same time! I will never forget the good ol' days growing up and living on Long Island. While living in Fla., I got a part time job at a pizza restaurant, and it happened to be the family that owned CARMELLA'S on Jericho Tpke on the left before you reached The Candlelight diner on the right. How can anyone forget Carmellas? That was the pizza joint WE ALL went to! We were just talking and I said I use to live in East Northport one night to a cook, he then went on to tell me they owned Carmella's in Commack! Such a small world!
