Susan's Story
Life
Hi to all of my old friends that I have not seen in a long time. I hope you are all well. I am married and live in Crofton MD with my husband Keith whom I married in 1999. He is from Charleston SC and is a computer engineer that designs very large data systems for all of NASA and NOAA's earth science data. We have two kids, Anna and Matthew, and two dogs, Bear and Mikey. To those of you who have known me a since just after college, yes Mikey is still alive and kicking, or jumping and barking as it would be in his case. (He is 16 years old now)
After college at Towson and law school at Cornell, I worked for a Maryland State Senator on health care legislation. Then I when to work for what is now AT&T (although while I worked for them they were SBC, CelluarOne and Cingular Wireless) I am guessing that AT&T will be their last name change but who knows. Anyway, I was a Director of Government and Regulatory Affairs where I did State and Federal lobbying. When my daughter was 1 ½ I decided that it was time to stay home. I have been home for over 4 years. Wow! That is truly amazing to me. Time does fly.
Being home with the kids during this time has been wonderful. They are truly amazing and delightful little people and I enjoy my time with them very much. We keep busy with play groups and activities. I am also active in our church and have even been known to preach a sermon from time to time when our pastor is away. I try to stay active with my book clubs but I do find it hard to find the time to read these days. Lately, when I do read just for myself I have been reading physics books most recently by Lisa Randall and Brian Greene on extra dimensions, string theory and the universe. I find this very challenging and ...Expand for more
completely out of my forte. But, believe it or not, I am finding this exposure is influencing the way I think about economic, policy and law in new and exciting ways.
Matthew will start full time kindergarten in 2 years. I donÂt know what I will do then but I have started to examine what that chapter of my life will bring. I don't think I want to practice law and I have grown tired of lobbying. So, I have been thinking about something a little more academic like a PhD in environmental policy. I have become very interested in the economics of that lately. But I donÂt know that I am up for all of that work so I might settle for a Masters in environmental policy to get me going in that direction. Who knows, I will just have to wait and see what I want to do and what fits with the kids schedules when the time comes. But I definitely want to find something more interesting and meaningful to the world then telecom regulations. Telecom was good on the wallet and had great people to work with in it, but just ho mum on the how am I making the world a better place today. I will try to keep you up to date.
PS: Some of you have contacted me looking for my Brother Brad. I am sad to report that he passed away in 1996 due to unfortunate circumstances. But he will always be in our hearts and memories. Love you Brad.
School
What can I say High school was one big party and I should have taken it more seriously. But it was fun. It certainly was my craziest days, too crazy to share all of the stories I am thinking of.
College
College was fun. Hi to all of you in Alpha Xi Delta and those that were on the Towson Debate team.
Law School not so fun but I did make some my best friends there. I guess adversity brings you together.
