Susan's Story
Life
Multiple choice questions leave so much to the grey area.
"Strenuous exercise" for me amounts to tap dancing. I took my first lesson at 53 and now find myself teaching on occasion. I still dance two hours a week.
My son finished college in Denver and returned to Cherry Hill, NJ (I keep telling him that there are 48 other states, but...!). The rest of my family is here in Washington. Dad (nearing 91), my sister, Karen, her four kids and her five grandkids.
Two years ago joined a local Lions Club because they' stepped up to present Cabaret that year--a local variety show that raises funds for the community. The organization that did the show for 50 years or so (the Ladies-Who-Lunch type) got tired of doing it, so the Lions did most of it that year.
Oh! The car choice. There aren't words to describe my miracle Mazda. But after 22 years and 343,000 miles it started to freak out my Dad, so I replaced it with a 2001 PTCruiser. We're starting to bond.
The things about the Philadelphia area that I miss most are crusty rye bread, decent egg-drop soup (actually, Asian food in general), softshell crabs, Dunkin' Donuts, WXPN-FM, Dave and Busters and ALL pi...Expand for more
zza. Even the worst east coast pizza beats what they call pizza here, but, hey. Life is a series of tradeoffs, no?
Workplace
After spending nearly a year corralling volunteers, advertisers and vendors, I'm actually working for pay again! I work for another Cabaret cast member (we even shared a dressing room)--who's a financial planner and insurance agent. I can walk to work across the City Center park and make use of what remains of my insurance experience. She's awesome--a longtime dancer and choreographer, too, who subs for my regular tap instructor about half the time.
Update January 2008:
I've posted some photos of the Cabaret we did in 2007. Actually, they're not photos, they're screen captures from The Worst Video Recording Of All Time, No Exceptions. We had a ball, in spite of the video. Made some money to put back into the community. Had another great month with Jaime (He's amazing. Did I say that already?) and learned some new dance steps. What more could I ask of life?!
April 2008:
We're past 338K on the Mazda. I drive so little now, I only fill the tank about once a month. Longview is a small town and easy to get around. Life is good.
