Susan's Story
Wow! My kids challenged me to join the Facebook age and now I'm going to try this. It was exciting to see all of your names and the memories of growing up in Devine came rushing back. I hope that the Lord has blessed your years and that you all have stories to share.
I have traveled with my husband of 39 years (Roger) as he served as a Navy pilot and we've had more adventures than there is room to write. During that time we had two children, Matthew and Marie and now we are grandparents (the greatest thing ever!) to Wyatt (Marie & John's son, 11 years old) and Emma (Matthew & Sarah's daughter, 3 months old).
I taught school for a short time before we had children and then later homeschooled them when we lived in California. (Now that was an adventure!) After moving to Virginia I was a church secretary for a number of years, where I learned to use a computer and developed many more gifts that I didn't even know that I had--like handling bulk mailing!
After Roger retired from his second job, we settled on 5.5 acres in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in western Virginia. We love country life and although I can't believe that I really like gardening and canning, since I didn't like helping with it back in high school, it is amazing how rewarding it is. I guess that it is all in the perspective!

ve one crazy dog who chases the deer away from our new fruit trees and are planning on getting chickens soon. Since this is a new way of life for us, it takes time to learn. Roger traded his helicopter for a tractor and I guess I didn't have to trade much. I'm still providing the support and love that our family needs and with God's help, we've made wonderful friends in our new community.
We now teach a teen Sunday school class that will keep us young--they like to come to our place to play in the river and entertain our dog. I play the piano at church--something that I hadn't done in years--and find it completely satisfying.
How quickly the years have gone and looking back, it is hard to tell my "story" in just a few words. I'm sure that you all feel the same. There is no summing up all that has happened, but there is one thing that changed my way of seeing things...about 15 years ago I survived a ruptured cerebral aneurysm through surgery. I learned that life is short and none of us know what the next minute holds, so keep short records, don't hold grudges and tell your family and friends that you love them. Live completely and fully and don't put off doing what needs to be done. Be more forgiving and less judging--and most of all enjoy the life God gave you.
Hope to hear some of your stories and reconnect.
