Susan (Swart)'s Story
Yes, I was always "the artist" in school - ever since first grade. A bunch of us from Weymouth '69 commuted to Mass College of Art - usually via Laurie Mechan's old VW bug or else the T. Married Don Petersen (Weymouth '68) in 1971 and received my BFA in Illustration and Graphic Design in '73. Intended to be a book illustrator, but worked for 40+ years in graphic design as graphic designer, production artist, dept. manager, art director for local printers, ad agencies, direct mail, and newspapers. Got laid off in 2007 and had no intention of retiring, so I'm trying to get by on freelance work. Finally illustrated a children's book (see photo) in 2013 after connecting with Weymouth '70 grad Peter Reilly. I connected him to the local publisher.

But I should have dated others during art school since after 19 years of marriage - and two great kids - we realized we didn't agree on lots of things. So I pretty much raised the kids myself while working and doing all the school and scout stuff with them. Both are now married. I have one grandchild and one on the way.
I've been a volunteer and service provider for SS Habitat for Humanity in various roles since 2001. Also contributed services over the years to school, community, church and other non-profit organizations. Have scaled that back some to focus on my business. Enjoy listening and occasionally singing at local open mikes. (Catbird Cafe at NE Wildlife Cntr, Weymouth is the BEST!) Trying to start "dating" again! This ain't high school anymore...LOL
