Susan's Story
Susan Gregory Thomas (aka, "Pierce" and "Susie") is originally from Berkeley, California, moving to Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania at age 13. She first attended the Baldwin School for four years before transferring to Harriton High School in sophomore year. She graduated from Columbia University with honors, receiving the English Department Award.
Susan is a career journalist and has worked for: U.S. News & World Report; TIME Magazine; The Washington Post; The Wall Street Journal; The New York Times; Glamour; Vogue; More; and others. She is also the author of several books, including the critically-praised "In Spite of Everything: A Generation X Memoir" (Random House: 2011); "Buy, Buy Baby: How Consumer Culture Manipulates Parents and Harms Young Minds" (Houghton-Mifflin: 2007).

self-sufficient farm in Brooklyn to clothe and feed her three utterly outstanding schmushkies (Zuzu, Frankie, and Will), Susan is clear that she is no back-to-the-land hippie nor doomsday prepper. Rather, she attributes her proclivity for self-sufficiency to her early participation in the DC Hardcore Punk movement -- where "everything was the effort and clear show of DIY, by necessity and excitement, not some new avenue for glossy consumerism."
