Susan's Story

Life I was widowed in 2006 after 25 years of marriage to Chuck Henzy. We had two boys, Chucky and Nicky (born in '82 and '85)I have one daughter and one other son-born in '72 and '66. My daughter, Francesca, has 5 girls and 3 boys and my oldest son, Sean, has one son. Chucky has a daughter,a son and a stepson. I worked as a chemist for a while after college(Washburn U)then "retired" to raise kids. I moved to Connecticut in 1977. A couple of years ago, I decided I wanted to work, so got a job as a secretary to a local Fire Marshal and loved it. I even studied website design and designed and maintained the department's website!! I retired in 2006 when Chuck and I moved to Florida. However, he became ill and died shortly afterwards. I met a great guy (Steve - originally from Massachusetts) through an internet dating service and we have moved to San Antonio, Florida. We bought a villa at the Tampa Bay Golf and Tennis Club and are have a great time there. We love being able to sit in our hot tub on the lanai and listen to the frogs and "gaters" at night in our back yard.I'm adjusting pretty well to the heat here (even playing a round of golf in 90+ weather in the middle of the day.) It really doesn't seem any worse than Kansas summers. Life has sure had some strange twists and turns, and I'm sure the surprises are still coming- just hope they are good ones! Let me know what you are up to and get in touch if you are in the Tampa area. In 2010 we bought a house in Zephyrhills, FL that was in foreclosure and renovated it. We moved into the house to cut down on drive time from our home, but visited our "real" house at least once a week to go to the pool, check on my orchids, and pick up stuff we need at the fixer-upper.It's like our country club- ...Expand for more
we just love it there. I replaced all the carpet and vinyl with ceramic tile - a LOT of work. We completely gutted the kitchen and changed the layout, got all new cabinets, and I built new countertops with granite tile. I got a wet polisher to polish the edges of the tile. I did it first on our home- even got a diamond round-over bit to finish the edges of the countertop. I'll post some pictures soon. Check out my facebook page in the meanwhile. I must admit that I'm a power tool junky - some gals like shoes, me, I'm nuts for my Krieg pocket screw jig and my Fein Multi tool!! Oh, I forgot- I had to have gall bladder surgery about 6 weeks after we started on the renovation- not what I needed when there was so much to be done, but soon got back to normal. I have a really interesting part-time job. I summarize IPO prospectuses (prospecti??? LOL) for a nationally known authority on IPOs. Since I LOVE the stock market and have picked some pretty good ones the last few years, I really enjoy doing this. I do it at my dining room table or sitting on the couch watching TV, so it sure saves on gas for commuting! Steve and I bought a duplex in Zephyrhills and did some fixing up - it is pretty new, so it was mostly cosmetic stuff, except I built some cabinets for the bathrooms and we split the bathrooms into two compartments. We also took down the sheetrock on one side of the common wall to put in soundproofing insulation and two layers of sheetrock with a soundproofing membrane between. I just had arthroscopic surgery on one knee and am NOT moving as fast as I would like, but am slowly recovering. The surgeon said it was the worst knee he had ever worked on - NOT what one wants to hear! Keep in touch - I would love to know what you all are up to.
