Susan's Story
What a nerd I was in High School; a size 12 in a size 5 world. It wasn't really until after I graduated that I came to the realization that the secret to happiness and real inner peace was not necessarily being the queen of everything in life but being content with who you are and by living the life that God planned just for me.
I never got down to a size 5, I never dated a quarterback, and I never got voted prom queen at Jeffy Tech. But I married a wonderful man and we've raised two sons who have made us proud both in their Chrisian walk and choices in life.
Occasionally I'll have those nostalgic feelings about 1968-1972 and wish that it had been me who got to lead cheers in a pep rally or wear a homecoming crown at halftime but then I hasten back to reality and remember the great time that I did have in high ...Expand for more
school with my friends. I think I enjoyed almost everything about it except for P.E. when we had to exercise to "Chicken Fat". I may not have been popular but I had fun and when it all comes down to it I wouldn't change anything, well, maybe if just for one micro second I could have walked in Claire Cutcliffe's tennis shoes then I could have seen how it felt to be the quintessential Miss Everything (Claire, if you read this, you were so sweet to everyone, you treated everyone nicely and for that I'll always remember you fondly.)
It's funny now how age has become the great equalizer. I'll struggle to get in to a size 12 again; one of our sons is getting married next Spring and the weight has got to come off, but I've seen some of the used-to-be "size 5's" from high school too and middle-age spread has hit us all!
