Susan's Story
Life
I live in Malibu, California and have three children. The oldest, Jonny, is 30 and a professional actor. He graduated from Stanford, and was nominated for a Tony when he was eleven. Right now he's playing Juliet's father in The Acting Company's touring production. He got married last year to a wonderful woman, and they had a huge wedding in New Orleans, which was a Mardi Gras experience for everyone. My daughter is 27, and graduated from Stanford with a masters in psychology. She is now getting her PhD in clinical psychology at UC Berkeley. Her emphasis is sleep disorders. My youngest so just graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in Economics, and works for the Department of Labor. My husband has a large business in Alaska, and we have dwellings in Alaska, Malibu and Pennsylvania.. I worked as a lawyer for large corporations for ten years, then quit to raise my children. Two of my children have type 1 diabetes, and I ave been active in various diabetes organizations. My parents and two of my sisters still live in the Reading area, and all are fine. Workplace
I spent nine years as a lawyer for major corporations - General Motors, Reynolds Metals Company and Kenner Toy Company. My field was international trade, import/export and government relations. After nine years and two kids, I realized I was being more of a child manager than a mother, so I cut back to part time, had a third child,...Expand for more
and eventually stopped work altogether. Two of my children developed diabetes, which added further complications to my life. Stopping work was a good decision - the kids are doing very well. I now spend my time traveling. I have developed an interest in Ayurveda, and try to live an Ayurvedic lifestyle.
update, October 2016 -
All three children are married now, and I am the grandmother of 3. My son, daughter-in-law and 2 grandchildren live in Manhattan, and the other two sets live in the San Francisco Bay Area, along with my third grandchild. My parents are still with us, although we had to move them to Country Meadows due to my mother's dementia. This November my father will be 91! I have an apartment in Reading, a townhouse in Redwood City (San Francisco Bay area), a house in Alaska and a place in Malibu. All of my children waited till their early 30s to start their families, which means that by the time my youngest son has his last child I'll be close to 70! I now work out twice a week with excellent trainers so that I'll be able to keep up with them.
My interests continue to be eclectic - I took beginning Sanskrit at Columbia four years ago, I take creative writing classes at UC Berkeley and I'm learning to play the didgeridoo because it's an alternative treatment for sleep apnea. I intend to keep learning for as long as I am able. I watch my grandchildren and love to take them to museums.
