Suzan's Story
Sooo after Palmer - I attended Adams State College in Alamosa CO where I became a strong Chicana "Activist". Married my husband Gene (40 years April 2019) two daughters (Mercedes 40 and Donicia 38) Mercy is the mother of my two grandsons, Xhimali 20 and Dominic 14. After college I worked in Colorado Springs for 7 years at the Domestic Violence Prevention Center and the Urban League. I went to work in Denver at Servicios de La Raza where I was a team lead for a bilingual domestic violence program. Then my big jump to Las Cruces New Mexico - I was the Executive Director for the battered womens shelter and counseling services for perpetrators. rking in Federally Qualified Community Health Centers. I started as the Medical Program Director worked my way up in the organization and then moved to Albuquerque and took the Deputy Director position for the New Mexico Primary Care Association - 8 years. Then 6 years as CEO for the system I originally worked for in Las Cruces. I have had a GREAT working career. I am still consulting for CHC's as a compliance reviewer and I tell everyone that the skills I learned as a busgirl at Nemeth's El Tejon and Secretary of Social at Palmer High were the foundation of my capability to advance in my career. And I am one of those "girls" who say they LOVED High School!!! And I remember my friends and teachers and hope that God has Blessed them all as much as He has Blessed me.
