Suzanne's Story

History...wow. How does one condense 40 years? I met fellow classmate Mike Beall at the start of our junior year in high school. We married in 1980 and bought my parent's home two blocks from Tarpon High where, over the next 20 years, we raised a son and daughter. Mike worked a lot of years for Reptron Electronics in the computer component industry. I was primarily a stay-at-home mom driving the kids to dance class and little league. It was very Norman Rockwell. Occasionally I'd pick up some part-time work as an artist. During this time, Mike and I used to jam with friends at the house; he on drums and me on bass. We eventually hooked up with a kick-ass guitarist and a classically-trained keyboard player and got good enough to play a few gigs in Tarpon. I really miss making music. In 1997 I did something crazy; I created a monthly newspaper, called it the Tarpon Springs Experience and put the whole thing out myself. Mike and the kids helped deliver it every month. tion in late 1999 because it was just too much work and not enough financial return. Several months later, Mike and I separated. Time had taken us down different emotional roads. It was a difficult situation - incredibly frightening but also empowering. After 25 years together, we both suddenly had to figure out who we were without one another. The St. Pete Times hired me in 2000 to work in the downtown St. Pete office as a paste up artist. When that job was phased out by technology in 2005, I transferred to the Clearwater bureau where I worked as an editorial assistant, staff writer, office manager, etc. until 2014. My son Brian and daughter Jessica still live in the area. Mike passed away in 2006. Yes, I've deliberately left a big, gaping hole where my personal information should be. Suffice to say that I'm happy, and working toward understanding and enlightenment every day. Maybe I'll have reached it by the time the next reunion comes around. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Sarah and I made new recipes for dinner: Roast pork loin, stir-fried basmati rice with pineapple, Island cabbage salad and an interesting cocktail, the Trinidad Sour! What an adventure and we never even left home!
Culinary delights for brunch on this Sunday. Cajun Eggs in Purgatory, southern cheese grits, smoked salmon spread and crispy matzo crackers!

I can't remember when I've seen so many leaves on the ground. It was a beautiful orange carpet.
