Suzanne's Story
Hi all - thanks to anyone who is visiting this page and reaching out.
To summarize: after graduating from high school, I did a Bachelor of Music and Master of Arts in Music (classical piano) at San Francisco State University; Became a Nichiren Buddhist in 1978, and continue to practice faithfully. Began singing jazz in 1979; married Jeff Pittson in 1980 (we just celebrated our 29th!!); Jeff is an amazing jazz pianist, and we have performed together throughout the years. Had our beautiful son Evan in 1992. Recorded my first CD "Blues and the Abstract Truth" in 1996, and 2nd CD "Resolution: A Remembrance of John Coltrane" in 1999. as Assistant Professor of Jazz Vocal Studies at the City College of New York in Harlem - will be up for tenure in 2010. Recorded my new CD "Out of the Hub: The Music of Freddie Hubbard" on August 26-27, 2008, which will hopefully be released in the summer, '09. We love life on the East Coast, even shoveling snow. It's very intense, but provides constant inspiration for all three of us. Evan is also a visual artist and violist.
As I read back this summary, I'm struck by how smooth and easy everything sounds. Of course there have been enormous challenges along the way, in ALL areas. But I'm very happy that I stuck with it, as I'm now finally seeing the fruits of my labor - also in ALL areas.
