Sylvia's Story
College
Stanford University provided a BA in communications (film/broadcasting) and a minor in German, which I do not use. 7 years later I earned my MBA from the University of Southern CA (marketing/finance). It is this degree I leveraged at my career with SBC/Pacific Bell. I might add a certificate in Engineering (computer) in between. I knew a certificate wasn't enough so in 2001 I received my Master's in Information Technology (programming) so that I had a piece a paper to accompany my interest in computers. Determined to use the knowledge at work I manage the district web site and am left to hone my web design and database skills as time permits. There usually isn't much time. Now I will refocus on photography and DVD production, working on the Career 2 transition.
Workplace
I have to testify how good God is. In April, 2008 I received a 6...Expand for more
0 day letter at work. That means find another job within the company in 60 days or you leave. Anyway, I told everyone I came in contact with at home and at work, following up on all possible leads. I prayed and asked my friends to pray that I would be open to God's next step for me. I really wanted a retirement pension from AT&T and I needed another 3 years minimum. I applied for jobs across the state and thought I would be in North Carolina by now but God provided another opportunity in Los Angeles. I'm a senior project manager in network planning and engineering. It seems I get to use some of that technical training I received after all. I am able to keep my grandma in residence status (the maternal grandmother is in another state), and continue my balancing act between work and hobbies. I hope you all know and thank God for his blessings.
