Sylvia's Story

Life Oh no! An essay to write! If I double space will it be enough to please the teacher? I remember counting every word to make sure I had the required minimum!*?!! Here goes: Moved to Manchester, CT junior year of high school. Graduated Manchester High School - graduated Central Connecticut State College - taught school at (ready for the list?!!) Manchester Junior High (CT), Danielson Junior High (CT), Cox High School (VA), Fairfax Junior High (VA), Annapolis Junior High (MD), Southern High School (MD), Broadneck High School (MD). Enough!!!!! Retired January 2002 and loving it. If you've made the "Eagle" in the past 40 years, I've probably read the article. My Mom sent me most articles about classmates. I remember Lloyd Mann's daughter getting married - the article on Bobby Hammond teaching in Cornish, I think. Anyway, we now get the Eagle in Maryland so my Mom can keep track of her old friends. I read it too, sometimes. When my husband and I retired, we bought land and built a house. The 2 boys are out on their own - not married, so no grandchildren to spoil. Darn! Well, we got a dog and spoil him. Planted our spring garden already - you people in the snow count...Expand for more
ry enjoy the cold for a little longer. We haven't had a garden for 22 years. Couldn't because of the small lot. We're dreaming of apple, cherry, peach, pear and walnut trees. Some are already planted and others on the way. The climate is so much warmer - great for gardening but I miss the snow and the MOUNTAINS. We're now "flatlanders". We do have a lot in Vermont and travel up there 6 or 7 times a year. Love the mountains too much to give them up completely. Forty years have gone by - didn't do anything out of the ordinary - raised two boys, did all the sports, church and scout things with them - traveled some- remember those 8 hour trips to NH with 2 little guys in the car!!!!!!!! Remember one exciting return trip: I'm driving with a 6-year old and an 8-year old, almost home, in Maryland and stopped for speeding in a Volkswagon Rabbit!!!!! The car couldn"t possible do 75 mph!!!! I told the officer so. He didn't believe me - my one and only speeding ticket. Oldest son was so excited, big smile on his face, wondering (out loud) if Mom was going to jail!!!! That sure perked up the boring trip for him. That's it. I'm sure I stayed under the 4000 word limit. April 1, 2004.
