Sylvia's Story
Hello fellow classmates, I am Sylvia Diann Ellison (Morehead), sorry it has taken me so long to write my story. Since, 1976 when I graduated from Parkersburg High School, I went to Glenville State College and recieved my teaching certificate. In 1980 after graduation my first job was teaching in St.Mary, WV. In 1986, I was hired here in Parkersburg in Wood County WV. I taught at Parkersburg South High School. I was happy with teaching and loved it, I received my masters degree at WVU. I never wanted to get married or have children, I had many children and teenagers from teaching. In 1997, I began having serious migraine headaches and no doctors could tell me why. I went all over WV and Ohio. They just told me I had calcium deposits on my brain stem. They finally found medicine that would help some. Finally, in January 2004,I found a doctor that found my problem, I had a brain tumor. It was not cancer thank God. When they did surgery, I was in the hospital 69 days. I had to learn everything over.Speaking, walking and everything such as chores around the house. I was lucky enough to have taught enough years, I was able to retire as of August 2004. I am doing great now. B...Expand for more
y the way I forgot to tell I was married on December 17,1994. I married one of our classmates from 1976, James Ellison. We have been happily married for 15 years now. So I broke one promise, I was not going to ever get married, but I was 36 years old. I was unable to have children, I couldn't break that promise, I have nieces and friends with children, they call me Aunt Di. So I consider them my children along with the students I taught. By the way, when we got married we moved to southside of Parkersburg, because I was teaching at Parkersburg South. I still am for the Big Reds, except when South and PHS is playing, I vote for South. Hope you understand since teaching at South. I was also the Cheerleading Coach. I am happy with my life now days. I do miss teaching though. It took many hours to do your job correct. We have traveled alot, which we love to do. I can't think of what else to say at the moment, God Bess all. Hope to see you at the PHS class of 1976, 35 year reunion, if we have on. I hope so. If you need help, please let me know. through classmates. com, I will give you my e-mail address and others then. I would love to help. GO BIG REDS! class of 1976.
