Dorcas's Story

I wasn't one of the "popular" kids in school- they called me a "braniac" and laughed because I was so skinny! I'm still skinny, but I guess it isn't so bad! I have, after many years dedicated to gorging on pizza and chocolate, managed to gain enough weight to have hips and a round bottom, but, alas, I will never be voluptous! I always told everyone that I wanted to be an astronaut when I grew up, and everyone thought this was crazy! I think my classmates may remember me best from the school skit in which I appeared with curlers in my hair! In high school I became something of a class clown, and liked to act outrageous... I'm a bit more mellow now! As for my life now: I left Trenton at 19, after a couple of years taking part-time courses at the community college. osition. I finished my degree at the College of Staten Island, where I also hosted a radio show, played and sang in the jazz big band, and wrote for the college newspaper. I went to grad school for 2 years (part time)in NY, at City College. I started doing gigs in NY with a jazz group around 2001. I recorded a jazz CD in 2002, and I wrote and arranged various pieces. A few years ago, I packed up and moved to Germany. I have been studying for a certificate as an ESL teacher, and I am working as an English and music teacher at a German middle school/high school. I am hoping to continue graduate studies here. I'm living in Worms, Germany, and I have lots of friends here, although I'm single. I occasionally sing at live concerts, and I play piano at my church. I guess I didn't become an astronaut after all- just a space cadet! ;-)
