Tamara's Story
Hello All~
I immediately moved to Arizona after graduation (seriously, it was less than a week), and have been here ever since. I cann't stand being cold, and the sunshine everyday is awesome!
I waitressed for a couple of years and just had fun. I never finished college, much to my parent's dismay. Thankfully, I found something that I am very passionate about. I was introduced to Adults with Developmental Disabilities when I was around 19, and knew immediately that this was what I wanted to pursue as a carrer. I started working in the group homes, and worked my way up from there. I worked for the same company as the Director of Foster Care services for special needs children and adults for 11+ years here in Arizona. As a Social Worker you get to multi task, and since I can't stay on one task for long...it was a perfect fit for me.
In 2000 I decided that I wanted to start my own company. I named it "Family Partners" and we currently serve over 600 children and adults with Developmental Disabilities in the valley, and their families, and have over 200 employees. I am a proud owner because I truly beat the odds by not going to college, but have also worked really hard for it. I love what I do. I feel like I can make a difference by helping those that are vulnerable and can't help themselves. ...Expand for more
I have 2 wonderful children, Connor is 9, and Kylee turns 3 in less than a week. My kids are my life, and I love being a mom! We enjoy hiking (when it's not 115 degrees here in Arizona), going on our boat (yes there are many beautiuful lakes here in Arizona),tubing and knee boarding, swimming, bicycling, cook-outs with friends, traveling and my favorite past-time shopping!
We go back to Wisconsin several times per year, although lately we have not been hitting Janesville. My parents moved out here so we mostly spend time in Oshkosh where my husband is from. We actually met in Arizona not Wisconsin.
I have recently connected with Jackie Burhans twice so far when she and her family have come out to Arizona, and I will see her again in December when she comes to Arizona again! Her parent's and sister live out here, and I am trying my hardest to convince her to move out here too! It has been so fun reconnecting .......and in many ways it feels like we are back in highschool when we are together.
So, life is better than I could have ever imagined. I have been married for 11 years, and we have been together for 18 years. He's a great father. I work and he is a stay at home Dad, so I'm pretty lucky.
I'd love to hear from any of you that remember me. Take Care everyone! Tamara (Hess) Gallinger
