Tammy's Story
After dropping out of high school my senior year, I got married, had my first child, returned to school and graduated at Mabank High School class of 1988. (When I graduated, I was six mos pregnant with my second child.) That relationship was short lived and I rebounded to another relationship and had my 3rd child by the age of 22.
I decided I needed to go to college to be able to support myself, so in 1992, I started at TVCC, graduated in 1995 with Associate Degree in Nursing. I was a single parent for about 10 years, and dated very little during that time. I needed time to heal from the bad relationships of the past. I focused on my career and kids. I have done a lot of types of nursing: Med-Surg Tele, ER, ICU, Post Partum, day surg, home health, hospice, urgent care...Expand for more
, etc. My favorite has always been Telemetry. Mostly because I love to teach, and when a middle aged person comes in with a heart problem, you usually have their full attention.
I met my current husband in 1999, and we got married in 2001. We are happily married. He was a firefighter/paramedic when we met, now he is an ER nurse. We plan to do some travel nursing when the kids are gone, which won't be long.
My oldest daughter, Erica, will graduate with a Bachelor in Chemistry from A&M May 2009. She plans to get her Master's degree. My middle-child, Jessica, is undecided. She is in her sophomore year at TVCC. My youngest, Julia, is a senior this year.
Although I had a rough start, I wouldn't change a thing. It has made me who I am today. I am very thankful for my family.
