Tammy's Story
After high school I went to Berkely Business College and received a certificate in Information Processing (just a fancy way to say that I was eligible to be a certified secretary -- oooohhhweeee). With that, I got a full time job as an Office Manager for a food development company which was pretty interesting. In '93, my boyfriend at the time, Joe, and I decided we had enough of the rat race and moved to North Carolina. We got married here in '94 and have been happily married since. We now have 3 children, 2 boys and a girl. Josh is 12 and is the quiet reserved type and very athletic. He looks like dad but has mom's personality (ut oh). Alex is 9 and is the total goofball. Life is always ducky for him. Shauna is 4 and well.......she's a trip! Very opinionated (where did she get that from) and won't hesitate to tell you what she's thinking. I call her my prissy tomboy. Loves to wear dresses while playing in the mud. A very diversified bunch that keeps me on my toes. I worked for East Carolina University for 7 years before deciding that I wanted to try being a stay at home mom. Tried it for 5 years and realized I needed adult interaction or I would go crazy. This realization becomes apparent when you wake up singing Barney and you know more cartoon theme songs than the number one hits on the radio. While working at ECU, I thought I figured out what I wanted to be when I grew up and took classes in Sign Language to become an interpreter. Well..........that only made me realize that I was...Expand for more
n't quite disfunctional enough to be an interpreter. During my stent of being the "perfect" mom, I volunteered at the kids school several days a week helping in the classrooms and truly loved it. The teachers convinced me to go back to school and get my credits to be a teacher assistant. I did just that and I think I have found my niche in life. Pretty funny that I'm not disfunctional enough to be a Sign Language Interpreter but am to be a Teacher Assistant. HHHMMMMM! Trust me, you have to be in order to relate to the students. I love my job and have been doing it for 3 years. On the weekends, I enjoy being outside. I have taken up horseback riding and absolutely love it. Not too good at it but I try. I've gotten thrown a few times but I keep getting up. Back in May last year I got thrown so good that I broke my arm and had to get a plate and screws put in. Hubby says they should have put it in my head but doc said my head wasn't broken as bad as the arm. We stay on the go with sports and all the kids stuff. Not the "soccer" mom, but I guess you could call me the "baseball" mom. I even had the mimivan........had to get rid of it cuz I just wasn't ready to be my mom. It was giving me a complex. No matter how you look at it, you just can't be cool in a minivan. Although, I do miss all the room it had. So, that's my story and I'm stickin to it. Boring as it may be, that's my life in a nut shell and I'll keep it if I want to. Would love to hear from yas! learn2signit at yahoo dot com
