Edna's Story

Hi my name is Edna Taylor-Prince. I am a 1975 graduate of Lompoc High School. I was in the drill team and a varsity cheerleader my senior year. I just recently returned to Lompoc on December 29, 2011, due to my mother, Mildred Taylor passing. She went on to be with the lord after living a beautiful life giving to others. The memories of my mother will live on forever. Lompoc has changed somewhat. Seeing the high school brought back good memories. The high school structure has not changed. Now living in a big city in Virginia its was nice to come back to the small town of Lompoc and still see kids playing football in the local shopping center around midnight. People walking down the main streets instead of riding busses. Jack in the box still on the corner of H street with those same delicious tacos! The picturesque view of the beautiful mountains and ocean are breath taking. When I moved from Lompoc in 1979, I traveled to many places with my husband and kids. My children, Larry Jr is stationed in Korea, my son Lonell is living in Alexandria, Va, my daugter Melissa graduated this June from college in Roanoke, Va, My children are a blessing to me, and Im so very blessed to have a supportive husband who retired from the military. irginia. I went on to pursue a career in Social Work, receiving a B.A in Social Work. I was blessed to get a job working in child welfare (foster care). It is a pleasure giving back and meeting the needs of families. I miss Lompoc and cherish the memories when I was home. Happy to hear that the football team has been successful!. What memories. My sister Linda was the first African American Cheerleader at Lompoc High School. My brother Eddie made his mark in basketball in the 70's at Lompoc High, my brother Glenn made his mark in football at Lompoc High and still coaching football and basketball there. And now my neice Jasmine plays basketball and softball for Lompoc High and my nephew Glen Jr plays football at Lompoc High. I cant leave without saying my neice Jossalyn also plays sports. It is a pleasure for me to see other family members give back to Lompoc in some capacity or another. I never made it home for a high school reunion, but I look back at all the friends I made while in school. My dearest friend Carrie Gibbs, I will never forget you. You were there for me in more ways that you will ever know. Lori, we made it didnt we!!! you songleader, me cheerleader! my lovely and dear mom, if it wasnt for you, I would not be the person that I am today.
