Ted's Story

Life's been ... well "It's been a slice" you might say. My timeline reveals much travel through the 70's. Acquaintances were made during and since high school, though we've lost many of their trails. My 80's resembles a Canadian version "How I Met Your Mother". I met and married Jacqueline in 1982, and our daughter was born in 1985. Our 90's were like climbing Pike's Peak over and over. My experience has brought me a vast array of employers. My wife, Jacqueline had worked 15 years for a homebuilder until 1999. She then joined Canadian Tire ... 15 years and counting! In our family, she's been the rock. The millenium brought us a lot of diversity. After 51 years of the GTA, we moved to Niagara Region in 2004. Jackie's hometown was Welland, which is home to one of Canadian Tire's head offices. In 2005, we opened Creative Nest, an arts centre for learning and appreciation, though some may have learned while far less seemed to appreciate. Unfortunately, we had to close in 2007. In 2006, I did what probably should have been done long ago, after observing the fledgling affluence out west while cycle-touring through in the mid-seventies. At Jobgym, I met a French-Canadian who, fed up with finding no work here, headed to Alberta's Oil Sands. Three months later, he called to say he was earning twice what he could have made here! By the end of August I had the Caravan packed heading west by Labour Day. I've been driving coaches Oil Sands transportation companies off and on ever since. This year (2009) has brought a bit of...Expand for more
a rude awakening. A routine medical diagnosed me as Diabetic Type II. Being a bit overweight, stressed at work, and too sweet for my own good can lead to a recipe for disaster. Time spent at home controlling this disease has allowed me time to reflect. Freedom 55 isn't quite what I'd envisioned it to be. 2009-2010, took Network Engineering at TriOS College in Hamilton to get my A+ and Network+ certification. Unfortunately, by the time I graduated, only minimum wage jobs were available in Niagara Region. 2010-2011 drove shuttles, buses and para-transit for Boys and Girls Club of Niagara. May 2011 to April 2012, operated motor coach for Coach Canada, doing charters and line runs. Summer 2012 was spent tour-guiding in Niagara Region, spent Christmas at Postcard Inn, Florida's Keys (fast forward to 2014) Back to Alberta to drive in spring 2013, just returned this August to get a hip replacement in September! Lost my Dad Sept 8, 2014, 2 weeks before my hip replacement :-( We miss him dearly :-) Oct 2015 ... After a year, the hip feels like it's been a part of me for life. We returned to being a Homestay family for nearby Niagara College. It's a rewarding experience if you can deal with sharing your living space with strangers. Spain, China, Barbados, and Japan have granted us students and memories to last a lifetime. Jacqueline and I are in the prime years of our lives. We had been growing together, apart. We plan to grow together, together. Comments and/or suggestions welcomed! Ted Arsovsky tedsky99 at gmail dot com
