Ted's Story

It's been a while since I've updated this. I retired from the Navy in 2005 after a great 21 year run. I retired as a Chief Petty Officer and I worked in Supply/Logistics. I served on ships out of San Diego and had the fortune of living in the Phillipines, Japan and London and visited numerous countries in Asia, the Middle East and Europe. This included visits to Vladovostock, Russia (after the breakup of the Soviet Union), Hong Kong (both British and Chinese control) and places you may never have heard of such as Bahrain, Diego Garcia and Borneo. I've also stood in humilty in visiting places such as the Dachau concentration camp outside of Munich and the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam. My favorite place was London just because of being surrounded by centuries of history and the amazing culture and parks, a quick trip to the European continent (and a pub crawl here and there). It was there where I grew a true appreciation of history and culture and was challenged in converting Queen's English to American English. It offered the best of both worlds in terms of city life and being able to escape to tranquility in its many parks. The fastest two years of my life were in London. Now I live in Phoenix. Contrary to popular belief, there are four seasons in Phoenix: cold and rainy, pleasant, hot and freakin' unbearable. I'm enjoying the retirement life (by that I mean collecting a monthly pension). credentialing, recruitment and staffing. I work with some truly great people there. Also currently racking my brain in college with University of Phoenix. When I'm not working or learning I go to Diamondback and Coyote games, slicing golf balls at the driving range, walking around the Glendale/Peoria area when it's not triple digits out and hanging out with my affectonate cat Peanut. I'm not married nor do I have any kids. Long story short, a couple of relationships didn't quite work out. I also live in walking distance of the Peoria Sports Complex, the spring training home of the Seattle Mariners and San Diego Padres. Lastly, I want to say that I spent this past weekend (Aug. 15-16, 2008), attending my 25th class reunion in Medina, NY. This was the first one that I was able to go to. Although being a bit nervous before going and struggling on placing faces to names, it was a very great experience in seeing many that I've not seen in years. Despite whatever happened many years ago, any possible hard feelings and grudges disappeared a very long time ago. Also seeing the changes in my home town after not being there in years and the warmth and hospitality of those I've not seen in years, it really made me feel like I still had family there after my real family left a long time ago. I want to thank all of those that provided unforgetable memories in my return. I don't think I could possibly explain what this experience meant to me. Take care and best wishes to all. Ted
