BIOGRAPHY
Sergeant Major (Retired) Paul S. Temmermand, a native of Bellmawr, New Jersey, enlisted in the United States Army in September, 1971. He is a graduate of many schools to include the Airborne school, Ranger School, and the Sergeants Major Academy. SGM Temmermand has served since 1982 as a First Sergeant for a Mechanized Infantry Company; 3rd Infantry Division NCO Academy: a Missile Maintenance Company; and 2 Air Assault Infantry Companies, one of which went through Operation Desert Shield/Storm with no one killed or wounded. He has also been a Senior Army Advisor to the Vermont National Guard Mountaineering School and Mountain Battalion. Since 1992, SGM Temmermand has taught Senior ROTC at the University of Kentucky and served as the Wildcat Battalion Sergeant Major. He was then promoted to the 3rd Brigade Sergeant Major serving as the senior enlisted man for the states of Kentucky, Tennessee, and West Virginia. He was promoted again to the 2nd ROTC Region Sergeant Major. He was responsible for providing training recommendations to the Commanding General. Additionally, he was responsible health and welfare of over 14,000 Officers, Noncommissioned Officers, and cadets in 107 Colleges and Universities along the entire Mississippi River corridor. from Minnesota to Louisiana. He retired in October 1995.
Since his retirement he has been an Operations Manager for Baker Iron and Metal, INC, taught Junior ROTC at James A. Cawood High School in Harlan, Kentucky, and has retired from EDS in Winchester, Kentucky.
His awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters; Army Commendation Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters; Army Achievement Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster; Good Conduct Medal (7th Award); National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, Southwest Asia Service Medal with Arrowhead and 2 Campaign Stars; NCO Development Ribbon with Numeral 4; Army Service Ribbon: Overseas Ribbon with Numeral 3; and the Kuwait Liberation Medal with Palm. His decorations include the Combat InfantrymanÂs Badge, Expert InfantrymanÂs Badge, Ranger Tab, Senior Parachutist Badge, Recruiting Badge with 1 Gold Star, and Driving Badge.
He has received an Associate of Arts in Business from the Community College of Vermont in 1987 and a Bachelor of Science in General Studies, minor in Business from Johnson State College in 1988. He has earned his Microsoft Computer Systems Engineer certification from Sullivan University in 2000. He has earned over 90 hours in Information Technology from Sullivan University. In December 1971, SGM Temmermand married the former Ms. Susan Outler and they have 2 children, James and Elizabeth, and 2 grandsons, Wesley and Zachary. They have made Lexington, Kentucky their home upon his retirement.
