Tenley's Story
Life
I finally moved away from Sparta in 1997. Currently I live in a suburb of Chicago and LOVE it!!
While living in Sparta, my husband, Steve, was a coal miner and I was a stay-at-home mom . . . I loved that, too! But when the mines closed down, we decided that I would go back to school, with the intent of being the breadwinner of the family.
I graduated from:
Belleville Area College in 1993, with AAS degree in Advertising Art Marketing.
SIU - Carbondale in 1995 & 1997 with BS & MS in Workforce Education & Development.
I came to the Chicago area alone to take a job with Plexco - a division of Chevron Chemical Co., as an IT User Liaison. My kids joined me 6 months later, and Steve finally got the courage to move (and got the transfer that he was waiting for) 2 1/2 years later.
I currently work for Comcast - the nation's largest cable provider. I'm a Direct Sales Supervisor, in charge of training all of the Chicago West Area sales reps. Steve is a Security Therapy Aide at Elgin Mental Health.
I also have my own business. In May 2003, I formed Tenley & Associates, Inc. I specialize in teaching swim lessons to persons of all ages and abilities, which I've been doing for over 30 years. I rent pool space and have hired and trained others to teach swimming using my philosophy and methodology. I even have my own website: learn2swim d...Expand for more

Our greatest joy and accomplishment is that we have been blessed with 3 wonderful chilren and 2 adorable grandsons, and another grandchild is on the way - due in Dec. 2007.
Our oldest son, Cory, is 30. He is a Lear Jet pilot for Jet Corp, out of St. Charles, MO. He married Jayla Butler (Sharon Townley's daughter) in June 2000. They have two sons, Hunter, 6, and Lucas, 1 1/2.
Our daughter, Lacey, is 24. She attended SIU-C for 2 years, and was a diver on the Swim & Dive Team her Freshman year. She a graduated from Northern Illinois University, with a BA in Communicative Disorders in May 2006, and currently works as the Aquatic and Athletic Supervisor at Bloomingdale Park District.
Our youngest son, Chris, just turned 21. He's still trying to find his way in the world and hopes to make it big in the World Series of Poker scene. We love all of our kids very much, are extremely proud of them. We try to stay close and keep in touch on a daily basis. We especially like taking family vacations together every year or so.
We've struggled a lot throughout the years, but right now, life couldn't be better! We've just kept ourselves grounded in the faith of Jesus Christ and He has pulled us through - just as he promised!
I hope this finds you doing as well. I'd love to hear from former classmates, so please feel free to write.
