Teresa Bumguardner:

CLASS OF 1980
Mariposa, CA

Teresa's Story

Well, its been a long time since Mariposa High School. After Graduation, I got an "Awesome" job at County of Mariposa Recreation Department, scrubbing toilets at the Ball fields for $3.10 per hour. After opening my first paycheck, I quickly realized that I needed to go to College. I worked my way through College working part-time at Bondshu Insurance, Mariposa Title Company and other sordid odd jobs. Completed my A.A. at Merced College 1983, then my B.A. in English at CSU Stanislaus. I finally Graduated 1985. Thank you, God. Graduation day was the first day that I was able to sleep-in for the previous five years. That sleeping-in was sweet...So, I skipped the Graduation Ceremony, who cares, I made it to the Graduation Party, which was, by the way, Great! By the way, they ended up mailing me the Diploma anyway. After Graduating from CSU Stanislaus, I was offered a full Scholarship to Oxford University in order to complete my Master's degree, however, family obligations required that my life take another path. (By the way, I actually intended to become an English Professor or High School English teacher, which was a decision heavily influenced by the superb tutilage of MCHS English teacher,Laura Lynn Hays, however, this well laid-out plan was, j...Expand for more
ust as well, dashed upon the rocks of life.) I began work full-time at Bondshu Insurance Agency, eventually becoming a licensed Agent and Office Manager. I became a licensed Insurance Broker and started my own Insurance Agency in 1987. I married my husband, Matt in 1986. We have 4 children, 2 boys (21) & (16)yrs and 2 girls (19) & (18) yrs. This year 3 of the 4 will be in College.. Geez, makes me feel old! Currently, I own and operate a small Independent Insurance Agency in Page, AZ. My husband works for the City of Page. We still own a home in Mariposa and try to get back there at least a couple of times a year as we both have family there. Overall, I could not have scripted just how my life has turned out so far. It has been great to have the opportunity to watch my kids grow up and have some fantastic opportunities and experiences which have contributed to molding them in to the caring, admirable and intelligent young people that they have become. My life has been quite a wonderful journey, though not without its bumps and bruises. I guess, the lesson here is to be open to learning, learn to bend, and never be afraid to pray! That's all, for now at least! To all of my friends and classmates, Don't be afraid to keep in touch! Teresa
