After my father's death four days prior to the graduation commencement, I had to grow up quickly. The summer of 1980 was a difficult one, but I started AUM in the fall thanks to SSI benefits for children of deceased parents. Wanted to be a Registered Occupational Therapist, but due to Regan economics my benefits were cut, so I changed my major to Nursing the end of my sophmore year. Lacked one class to start upper division nursing at AUM, but the class was not going to be offered for a year, so I transferred to TSUM. Troy had no openings in the BSN program, so with four and a half years of college ended up with Associate of Science degree in nursing (1986). Did not like working in the acute care setting, so after a year I tried industrial medicine as a plant nurse at the GE Plant in Burkville, AL. Got married that same year (1987).
