Teri's Story

(Sadly, my oldest brother David Bruce Reid died on Jan. 27, 2013 following surgery for a ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm. Some of you at Farragut HS might remember him as "Reefer".). After HHS I had a GREAT two years at VC, working on the newspaper. Transferred to CSUN and graduated with a journalism degree. Two and a half years there convinced me NOT to live in San Fernando VAlley, or LA. I went to work for the Navy Public Affairs at Port Hueneme base, and I spent my career working for the Navy. I retired as the Public Affairs Officer (civilian) for Naval Base Ventura County, which includes both Port Hueneme and Point Mugu bases. Had many unique, historic experiences, from coordinating media for President Reagan's funeral (and attending the funeral), to liaison with movie and TV shows filming on Mugu or Hueneme bases. Met all kinds of people and made my BFFs there. I am currently splitting my time between Buellton and Ojai. Along the way I married, had two very interesting children, Kristen and Anthony, got divorced. My daughter had a baby girl, my first grandchild, in March 2008! Blessed with another grandchild, a boy, in May 2019. Kristen is an elementary school teacher. My brother Gar...Expand for more
y lives in Oxnard. He is on disability retirement. My sister Sandy was married for 35 years, her husband sadly passed away from cancer in 2022. She and Ed have two kids. . Mom and Dad passed away, Mom on Jan. 17, 2007 and Dad on Jan. 18, 2008. Dad retired from the Navy in the early 70s, after 30 years of service. After we moved back to Oxnard from Rota we didn't move away, we stayed in Oxnard. Even though I was a little kid in Rota I have several good memories, the swimming pool, the mud pit for incoming freshmen, going into the "Spanish part of town" to shop for shoes and get jawbreakers....riding flattened boxes down the hillside behind our home on Navarro Street. All the football games. I recently discovered three Christmas tree ornaments I remember we bought from students selling them at a football game, some kind of fundraiser. There's Santa, an angel and a joker. Kind of wish I could have been a student there for high school, but that wasn't to be. Volunteering a lot for the Ventura County Humane Society in Ojai. I'm a certified Master Gardener. I also volunteered for Help of Ojai, a community services non-profit. I'm on Facebook as Teri Ann Reid so send me a friend request if you know me!
