Terrance's Story

Life Terrance J. (Terry) Lanning – Career Profile Terry Lanning offers extensive experience with rich, elegantly transferable and adaptable skills in these disciplines… • writing • live presentation • marketing • advertising • public and employee relations • video production • website creation • management • and business development …gained during four decades as a dedicated corporate communication professional. He is now eager to tackle amazing new challenges in a second career marked by public contact, challenging yet fun tasks, and the opportunity to be of service to others in measurable, meaningful ways. A Dean’s List graduate of Syracuse University with a major in communication and a minor in psychology, Terry has worked in management and individual contributor positions with domestic and international corporations. Among them are GE, MCI, Carrols Restaurants, Mohawk Data Sciences, Clark Equipment, the Swedish-based Sandvik Group, Bird Inc., and Westminster Communities of Florida. Referred to as “…our Renaissance communicator” at GE, Terry has always been eager to apply his diverse skills to critical and creative marketing and communication challenges. One year at Sandvik, Terry’s annual performance review consisted of this solitary sentence: “Lanning deals well with the vagaries of life.” At Carrols, Terry managed product photography, companywide community relations, and he developed in-store displays for 250 fast food restaurants. He created and produced marketing support plans and materials for a high tech Internet startup in Boston and for “DI,” a direct image printing technology used to power digital printing presses around the world. Terry has developed and managed countless trade show exhibits including The SuperShow, IMTS, Shopping Center Managers Exposition, the Hanover Fair, the Bakery Show, World of Concrete, the Boston Home Show, and other venues. ment of robust, database-driven Websites for the New England shopping center developer S.R. Weiner and for Westminster Communities of Florida, the state’s largest chain of active-lifestyle retirement communities. He has produced corporate training as well as sales and marketing videos for many organizations including The Thomson Corporation, Sandvik, Bird Inc., UMS Group, and Quadrax Corporation. At Quadrax, he produced an infomercial broadcast nationwide that in a matter of weeks emptied a warehouse containing millions of dollars of languishing golf club inventory. In 1991, Terry founded Corporate Partners, a Boston marketing and corporate communication consulting firm. For over a dozen years, Terry developed and managed business-to-business and business-to-consumer projects for a wide variety of clients in virtually every communications medium. He closed Corporate Partners and relocated to Florida in 2003, where he has continued his career consulting and working for a corporate teambuilding company, an audiovisual production house, an organizational and workgroup performance improvement consultant, and a direct marketing firm in Tampa where he is currently a National Account Manager. Seasoned, proven, and self-confident, Terry is now looking for refreshing, straightforward opportunities to make new and different contributions in a respected, high quality organization where a day’s work well done is, in itself, a tangible step toward greater goals. What will Terry’s next job be? That’s hard to say exactly. However, it will certainly be one involving public contact or interaction, where his… • outgoing personality • sense of humor • boundless counterintuitive creativity • passion for professionalism • keen sense of personal accountability and responsibility • high level of curiosity • thoroughly transferable skills • endless appetite for variety …will meet the needs of a forward-thinking, people-oriented, socially responsible employer.
